An impressive array of works by the artist Tintoretto. You’ll be amazed by the works on the ground floor however reaching the first floor where the whole room and ceiling is covered in fantastic creations. More exhibits are on the second floor too.

Immediately after we entered this church and paid our admission, there was a stand containing brochures in multiple languages that highlighted the the top 20+ things to see within the church. It was helpful to have it along as we walked around to make sure that we didn’t miss anything. It also gave us the name or artist of each artwork. Several pieces also had signs in both Italian and English with additional information.

The Chiesa di San Zaccaria is dedicated to the saint of the same name, the father of St. John the Baptist.
The church was founded at the beginning of the ninth century to house the remains of the saint whose name it bears, given to the Doge of Venice by the Byzantine Emperor Leo V the Armenian. In the crypt of the church, several doges of Venice are sleeping the forever sleep. The original church was rebuilt in the years after 1170. As we see it today, it was rebuilt between 1458 and 1515.
The interior of the church is decorated with paintings by famous painters of which I have only heard about Giovanni Bellini, Tintoretto and Anthony van Dyck.
The crypt of the church has a peculiarity, namely that it is flooded all the time.
During the visit, a religious wedding was being prepared. If I had arrived later, I don't think I would have been able to visit the place.
The church entrance fee has been included in the Venezia Unica Card, a very convenient way to visit many tourist attractions in Venice.

It would be easy to walk on by this amazing church without stepping inside and seeing some fantastic visual masterpieces. The ceiling itself is a joy to admire. Recommended.

This is a lovely church, located next to the water, near San Marco square.
You're bound to walk past it while strolling along the water, so you might as well peek inside.

The tourist path close to the northern bank of the Canal Grande passes the Campo (square) San Genesio with the nice church close to the sestiere of Cannaregio. The church forms the imposing conclusion of this wide opening square. The inside is less spectacular compared with other churches in Venice. Its best known for its relics of Saint Lucia. In mediavel times Venice acquired works of art and relics, but sometimes they looted them in pagan lands and in the case of the relics of Saint Lucia even in Byzantium in 1204 p.c.

Even before entering Chiesa di San Sebastiano, I knew I would enjoy the interior. Layers of patina peeled away as the door hinge begged me to enter the church. Built in the 16th century, the paintings within its walls are glorious, and it is especially known for its Titian. Because it is part of the Chorus of Churches, I did not have to pay an additional fee to enter because it was included in the pass. Sitting close to the Giudecca Canal, it is a pleasant surprise like so many churches with a surprise around almost every corner. It is one of the five churches built after the Great Plague that killed many here on the island and named accordingly to the saint associated with the disease, St. Sebastian.

A bevy of saints and sibyls decorate the magnificent facade of this church located very near St. Mark's Square. One of the best late Renaissance facades in Venice, the interior features a beautiful work by Tintoretto, Christ Washing The Feet of the Disciples.

Designed by the famous Andrea Palladio, the church colloquially known as Il Redentore is worth the vaporetto ride to Giudecca all by itself. The interior is solemnly restrained, highlighted by an impressive altar. Part of the Chorus church circuit.

This is a beautiful church with a fantastic-looking dome, which gives plenty of photo-ops at the entrance to the city.

This is one of the oldest churches in Venice having been concreted in 1177. The current façade and much of the interior dates from the 17th century. The high ceilings and many windows give this church a bright and open feel.

It is on one of the main paths between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto, so you will probably pass it several times.

Despite the grayness, the abundance of artworks throughout the church lends warmth to the atmosphere. Titan's 'Transfiguration' graces the main altar, while the 'Annunciation' is easily identifiable by the radiant white dove. The organ shutters are painted by Titian’s older brother, Francesco Vecellio, a former soldier who later became a painter.

    There are two hidden gems:
    - Pala d’Argento is a large silverwork similar to the golden Pala d'Oro at Basilica di San Marco. It is concealed behind the 'Transfiguration' and is only revealed three times a year: from Easter Sunday to May 1st, from August 6th to 13th, and from Christmas to January 1st.
    - The Sacristy features stunning frescoes of shrubs, trees, and various birds, creating an illusion of the Paradise Garden, reminiscent of the Sala a Fogliami in Palazzo Grimani.

Santa Maria Formosa features a beautiful bell tower and a spacious campo, with several museums located nearby. Certainly worth the visit to see the mannerist Last Supper by Bassano and the beautiful triptychs by Bartolomeo Viviarini and Palma Il Vecchio. In the area, especially if you're interested in Renaissance painting, don't miss the Carpaccio canvases in the Scuola Dalmata and of course the wonderful collection at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia. Just northeast of San Marco, it's a great group of places to enjoy the art and get away from the bigger crowds in other parts of Venice.

Completed by the beginning of the fourteenth century, this chorus church has a very interesting Gothic portal, opening into a ceiling in the form of ship's wooden keel. Located on Dorsoduro just a few minutes from the Accadema, the art program in the church and sanctuary include a very moving funerary stele by Canova, three paintings by Tintoretto, and a 1390 Annunciation by Martino da Verona. The four Rococo works by Gaspare Diziani are remarkable for their use of light and shade... quite a change from the Gothic Annunciation. An esoteric group but well worth the visit.
