Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Total chaos trying to purchase tickets to ride the Leonardo Express back to the airport. First not easy to find the right machine. Only about a half dozen people ahead of us trying to purchase tickets but only one vending machine available near the platform and everyone was struggling to make the purchase with the completely uninterested station employee standing there not bothering to help anyone greatly. Took over 20 minutes and missed 2 consecutive trains in the process. Buy your tickets online in advance. It was also a long wait for a taxi when we arrived in town on a Saturday evening. Stood in taxi line for over 30 minutes even though there may have only been about a dozen couples in front of us. It seemed like a taxi would show up every 3-5 minutes. On a positive note, intercity Italian trains are modern, fast and comfortable and left on time.

This is a very goos train service which takes you from the airport to central station in Rome quickly.

The train does get very busy so be prepared to stand.

What a difference a day makes or in this case 3 days.
One day a 1 star ride and the other a 5 star ride.

We rode FR9411 twice while in Italy. Once on Dec 14 and again on Dec 17.
I will review both trips in this review.

On Dec 14 we took a day trip to Firenze to do a little specialized shopping. We booked standard economy, coach 5 seats 11C and 11D. FR 9411 departed Stazione Venezia S. Lucia on time and arrived at Mestre on time, so far so good. We left Mestre 7 minutes late and it progressively got worse... arrived Padova 9 minutes late and departed 11 late. Next stop Ferrara arrived 22 minutes late and departed 38 minutes late and pulled into Bologna 59 minutes late and departed 1 hour late arriving at Santa Maria Novella 55 minutes late. Got to hand it to the engineer after departing Bologna he made up 5 minutes getting to Firenze.
Evidently there was an infrastructure issue that was causing a slowdown between Ferrara and Bologna.

Upon arrival in Florence, I went to customer service and received a voucher for €13.22 credit on our next purchase due to the delay. Expires within a year.

On Dec 17 we rode FR 9411 from Stazione Venezia S. Lucia to Fiumicino Aeropuerto. We departed Venezia one minute late at 0927 but arrived at Fiumicino on time at 1407. No issues at all with this run from Venice to Rome Airport.

Used this train twice and it was good, me and father had only backpacks so didn't have problem.
However we used Italo train a third time, this time with luggage. The train DIDN'T allow enough time to finish collecting our luggage and train took off before we could get off train. The female staff were helpful as they could be though male staff a bit stressed.

We had to pay another ticket ti get back to Bresia train station.

Keep all luggage near you and start moving before even train gets into station. (Don't use luggage lockers as well since it takes extra time to collect luggage from one end of carriage to another)

P.s. there was a women who also did t get to leave the train.

We tried to spend our last day in Rome before boarding a plane late at night. We arrived in Tiburtina about 10am and was instantly confused about the layout - we found the place difficult to navigate, and felt constantly nervous given that we’d been told by our last Italian hosts that Tiburtina was probably one of the most dangerous places in Rome given the number of thieves waiting to prey on tourists! Eventually we found out way out of the station and tried to find one of the 4 listed luggage storage facilities that we’d seen advertised within 1km walk of the station. After walking in terrible heat with large suitcases for 1.5 hours, we found none of the storage places seemed to exist and gave up! Then found trains to airport were for some reason cancelled (no one seemed to want to say why!?) so had to resort to a taxi to airport and an 8 hour wait for our flight. A frustrating day to say the least.

if you choose hotel near this area (Novotel La Rustica Rome), there are no way you want to go to city center using cheeper solution. there are 2 train station which is here and la rustica iur. But both have no counter to buy tickets to rome city center (rome, tiburtina or rome, termini). no booth or no whatsoever. They only have machine to validate the ticket. So you need to take a cab to tiburtina station and it will cost you more in the rush hour because of the traffic jam.

Good value with multiple pass options and good coverage of the city. However not clear or helpful directions for English speakers. Rude really and pick pockets everywhere.

We are turists and for all our vacantion we used Atac company for travelkng . We payd from the first day for tikets from the train station but for our last day we had to buy another 4 tickets for our last time because one girl is pregnant and we had to arrive at the hotel. We went in the bus 81 and we tried for 2 times to buy from the app, as you suggest on the site.
We tried to go out on the next station but the controll came in and bloked our way even if i told them we want to go out because we couldn' buy our tickets. They were very rude and agressive with us.
We were fined all 4 of us with over 200 euro. Is not ok for an European city and for a civilazed one. 👎👎👎

We bought tickets from a shop as advised. We thought we had validated them by using the machine but we had not. Three conductors came on the bus very aggressive and accusative. We explained we didn't know the system apparently we needed to use the yellow ticket box at back of bus not the red one at front. They targeted my 15 year old daughter who was left traumatised despite me telling them her age etc. They need to make their system much clearer and employ nice helpful people who are not so bloody rude and disrespectful. Reading other reviews it doesn't seem that this has been addressed at all.

We spent nearly $2000 for Eurail passes and reservation fees for a family of 4 (plus one "free" child under 12 so 5 people total but only 4 we had to pay for) for "5" days of travel between France/Italy/Austria/added a 4th country never went to because no pass for just "3 countries". Any of the desirable trains (like high speed or night trains) required mandatory reservations which made this cost so much. Also, many routes excluded. For example, we wanted to take a night train from Paris to Italy-- NOT INCLUDED!-- just with a 25 % discount. So we had to take a night train to Nice instead. Guess what happened when we arrived at the Paris train station for our night train to Nice? We found out there was a strike and our train would not leave that night. They had us sleep on a non moving train! And they locked the bathrooms and only gave us access to the bathrooms at the train station. We then had to take a train in the morning to get to Nice (luckily it was high speed and we go there by 12:30 pm).
The train from Nice to Florence, however, had great views along the coast.
We realized what a poor value the Eurail was within a few hours of buying. I called them the next business day and was told I could return but had to pay a fee (something like 15% of the $1600 fee paid [that was the price before the reservation fees]).
My husband and I had traveled Eurail in the 80's and 90's and wanted to show our kids rail travel in Europe. I think I could have gotten better price by going directly to the rail website vs. Eurail.
