Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very cool experience. Actually, it was very hot during our visit. But we actually got pick a seat and imagine would it would have been like to attend a play. It's a bit of a walk up the hill but definitely worthwhile!

It's not often you find a genuine Roman temple sitting in the middle of a small town! We didn't find much information about it, but apparently it was preserved because it was absorbed into the Catholic Church. Although I wish there had been more information available, it was very fun to see.

We were on a guided tour and if you don't want to walk up the steps in front there is access from the side of the cathedral. There is so much history here and my suggestion would be to go on a guided tour because even if you speak French a guide can offer more information I believe than what you get from the placards around the cathedral although they are very informative. There is Kinghts of Templar history as well as history during the French Religious Wars that involved this place.

On our extended trip throughout Europe, we visited many Roman ruins and associated archeological museums. Vienne was unique in many ways, particularly the archeological museum built adjacent to the excavations for the "working class town" across the river from the Temple, and the antiteatro. The museum blended artifacts with reconstructed elements of typical houses of average citizens and wealthy aristocrats, production processes, shops, etc. It is comprehensive, well lit, offers English translations, and was a perfect prelim to our eventual trip to Pompeii. Highly recommended!

Definitely go for the view. We also picnicked with great sandwiches we bought on the walk up the hill at a neat little Morrocan deli. Had a good time till a bee stung my wife!

We toured the garden at dusk with a group from our cruise and had an excellent explanation of the Roman ruins. The plantings are well done and the garden closes right at dusk which makes walking there safer. We especially enjoyed the Roman road exhibit and the landscaping around it.

We were just wandering around town and stumbled upon these ruins. It's not a large area but it's nice to see them.

Vienne is only a 20 minute train ride from Lyon with hotels walking distance from the train station. Everything is walkable. It is worth spending 2 nights there to see everything. The roman theater and temple are breathtaking. And is so much more to see. The Vienne Cathedral was also stunning. Lovely quaint picturesque town with Roman ruins throughout!

Not large but has some nice Roman and Pre Roman archeology

Also a large collection of local art from the 18/19 Cents

If you are visiting the Roman museum an extra 2 euros gets all the other town museums included

Purpose built modern facility, easy to find with parking beside it. The staff were very helpful and suggested the city walk as a 2 hour introduction to Vienne. Air conditioning, a good stock of local products for sale and immaculate toilets. There is a nice park beside it with shady trees to make a cool rest from driving.
