What travellers are saying
- jfoxworthySanta Rosa, CA477 contributionsLove this city so walkable the Old town is a feat for the eyes...The number of shops and restaurants is overwhelming. The old town is close to everything and ver close to the water so it's a great place to spend time just walking around.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - yp17Houston, TX199 contributionsCouldn't find the elevator so walked up and down 350 steps each way. Very pleasant after walking along the coast, and Promenade des AnglaisWritten 31 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PeteFredericksburg, VA1,367 contributionsPromenade de Englais
In 1820, when a particularly harsh winter further north brought an influx of refugees to Nice, some of the English visitors proposed that the refugees could work on the construction of a walkway along the sea. It was funded by the members of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Today, it’s a beautiful place to sit and relax.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some green space, some stone plaza work. Originally designed mid-19th Century, but has been modernized. In the center of it all.Written 11 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- yp17Houston, TX199 contributionsInitially disappointed that no Wifi available to hear the tour items but the movie on Chagall's life was quite interesting and this small museum is very well designed.Written 31 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The Codnor TravellerCodnor, UK240 contributionsA very pleasant outdoor market which, in spite of its name, sells far more than just flowers.
You've got fresh fish, fowl, fresh meat, juices made before your very eyes, art, bespoke craft and a multitude of other bits and bobs.
This is what markets in the UK used to be like, before they got overrun with knocked off electrical items and tat.
Making any attempt to walk down Cours Saleya on market day will find you amidst the throng of market-goers whether you want it or not, as it is quite sizeable.
Along the edges of the market are a series of nice bars and eateries, so you can people watch too if you wish.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When we went there, a group of old folks were playing some local games close to the church.Written 23 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA19,499 contributionsA big beautiful beach in the modern part of town. It attracts a lot of sun bathers when the weather is good. Hotels, cafes and restaurants are right at hand, and also the lovely Promenade.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA19,499 contributionsA very wide street with buses and lots of places to shop. So it was a very busy road, lots of people around and lots of traffic. Good way to get across town in a taxi or a bus.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Steve CKent5 contributionsOther reviewers sum up the constraints of this building being Matisse's home, not a fully-funded art gallery. Next door is a (for me) much more rewarding experience.Written 7 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The Codnor TravellerCodnor, UK240 contributionsSecond only to Place Massena in its importance as a municipal square in the city of Nice, Garibaldi Square (or Place Garibaldi to be proper) is a little piece of Italy in southern France.
It is the oldest of Nice's squares, being built in 1773, and was originally called Piazza Vittorio. This is because at that point in time, Nice belonged to Italy, and the square was designed and built for the visit of the King of Sardinia, Victor Amadeus III.
Over time, as we all know, Nice was ceded to France and it would appear that a compromise was found whereby the square retained all its Italian influence but would be given a new name in honour of a man (Garibaldi) who is as Italian as thin pizza, but who was also born in Nice.
Today the square is a beautiful mix of cafes and resta urants, along with classic yellow tenement houses. You have a great transport network here too, with both the T1 and T2 Trams passing through the square ir VERY close by.
Obviously you cannot talk about Place Garibaldi without mentioning the wonderfully impressive Statue of the man himself, which sits in the centre of the square, however that will be in my next review...Written 30 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is full of sun worshippers on warm days, but we were here at the beginning of winter and the crowd was sparce. Still the view of the sea was magnificent. A classic in-town beach.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
