What travellers are saying
- Holidays814Isle of Man, UK70 contributionsRouen cathedral is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. While we were here, we went to see the “Luminiscence” light and music show inside the cathedral. Wow!! The choir, orchestra, lights and acoustics were superb and emotive. The shadows of soldiers projected onto the cathedral walls struck a chord. Highly recommend.Written 17 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 2001NH901 contributionsThis was a beautiful square to walk around and stare at all the architecture. Truly transport you back in time. The attached market was quite small. And limited in options. However, the number of cafés and restaurants nearby was impressive. Definitely worth a stop to look at the view.Written 20 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- worleybird98Hudson, OH984 contributionsThis town has much to see! Our walking tour started at the cathedral, which is spectacular! Very reminiscent of Notre Dame in Paris, there was so much intricate carving, you could stand there for hours taking it all in. We then walked through town and got to see the famous clock, and all the historic buildings. Some of the buildings are so old and lean so far you wonder how people feel safe living in them! We were there on a Sunday, so not much was open, but we did enjoy popping into a few stores, and even had to visit the McDonald's that was in a historic building! They have an "umbrella alley" here that has umbrellas with historic paintings on the underside which was cool to see. We really enjoyed our afternoon in this historic community.Written 23 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CodyDCWashington DC, DC7,160 contributionsWhile visiting Rouen on a vacation in Paris, I stopped by the museum while walking from the train station. The museum was free to enter which is always a good thing. I started walking around to see the collections. At first, there was nothing interesting, the paintings at first were average at best no real quality. Then I made my way to the impressionist gallery, where I was surprise by the amount of paintings for being a regional size art museum and the number of known artist. Another part of the museum I liked was room with paintings of Rouen and the cathedral. Continued through the building and encountered average paintings again. I'm glad I stopped by the museum and really enjoyed the impressionist gallery.Written 16 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sterling_MorrisonUckfield, UK153 contributionsThis is an audio-visual experience - cleverly done - with video worked into the shape of the rooms of the building. And the actors are excellent, especially in the final courtroom scenes. There isn't a lot of opportunity to wander around except at the end, and I wonder how engaged younger visitors would be, as the dialogue used is aimed more at an older audience. We enjoyed it (my kids are both late teens), and it was decent value. Worth a stop when you're in Rouen.Written 1 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- alohatripperHonolulu, HI1,807 contributionsWhile our driver Alex dropped us off at the square to find a parking space, we first had to walk through a dark, urine smelling, long, covered corridor. Then I associated the pungent smell with the appearance of homeless people loitering in the square. But once we began to recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of the square, we were elevated to learning more about the historical significance of not only the Place but also Joan of Arc.
The medieval town is worth the time to visit and stay 2-3H.Written 21 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a nice stop for photo opportunities. I'm sure there is lots of history and mystery of the clock tower.Written 16 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alohatripperHonolulu, HI1,807 contributionsWhen you first pass the Joan of Arc cross and see the ultra-modern church in her memory, your first impression is that the church is completely out of place with the context of the Place du Vieux-Marche. But once you enter and scope the interior, devoid of columns and extraneous support, you feel the spirit and reverence of the new, ca 1979, church. She would approve, I think.
This is the place to reflect on her sacrifice to country.Written 21 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA19,537 contributionsThis is a great street where you can see historic structures. Much of the city was bombed during the war, so it was great to see some preservation. Keep your eye out for the half-timbered houses which are the treasure of Normandy.Written 20 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Guillaume AShizuoka, Japan2,424 contributionsOne of the oldest streets of Rouen with its traditional building, some of them, if you look carefully, are leaning. Paved street for pedestrians only. A must do.Written 11 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
