Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    PROS
    * Famous historical district in a central location
    * Old Jewish Quarter with a few still intact synagogues and a few kosher eateries and two kosher bakeries
    * Now notable for busy nightlife and liberal lifestyles
    * Some cultural stuff such as Centre Pompidou and Museum of the Shoah
    * Many restaurants bars and party venues

    CONS
Busy crowded and noisy with party people at night

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE'...
... because I have stayed here before and liked it very much. I wanted to be close to some Jewish stuff, including food eateries, which I didn't do very much. As a matter of fact, I only ate at Chlew; the other places were too busy, uninteresting or not open- the bakeries are listed as opening at 0830H!!

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Yes

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Yes

    ADVICE
A good place to visit but beware of the evening crowds, even on weekday nights

Beautiful park surrounded with great arcades (it reminded me about Italian arcades) where there are some galleries, some shops and a few bistros etc. I will come back here on future Paris visits!

I am usually not that into this kind of museums, but... this one is super if you want to know the history of Paris from the neolithic times to now. It is also much bigger than I thought.

A beautiful historic building. It's really close to Ile de la Cite, so I recommend you come here early, before the bulk of the tourist start pouring in, to get the best shots.

    * It has interesting and useful exhibits and documentation- very academic
    * A good display of historical artifacts- especially startling and sobering were the remnants of the citizenry lists that the evil N@zis used to find their Jewish victims.
    * Located in Le Marais, near other tourist stuff

    CONS
    * This is a sobering place to reflect on man’s inhumanity and cruelness to the “other.”
    * The lighting overall is dim.
    * There is very heavy security with heavy doors and bullet-proof glass

    {I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it is important to remember this dark era, so that it is never repeated. It is somber and sobering.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Yes

    ADVICE
    * This is an important historical place to visit and to learn of the inhumanity and suffering
    * Be prepared for a sobering experience
    * Look at the names inside the museum grounds of the wall of victims and the names of French heroes on the wall outside the museum
    * One hint to make your visit more comfortable- yes, there are lockers to put your stuff, but we only saw them at the end of walking through the entire museum. So ask where are the lockers when you enter.

Every day in Paris you can discover new places, for example go to the oldest market in Paris, named after the nearby hospital where orphans were clothed in red, and has been standing since 1628.
Here you can see the warm atmosphere of the people, buy fresh fruits or taste various foods and enjoy the atmosphere

It is beautiful (both place and permanent collection) and you can understand how the personal, cultural, politic and social life of Picasso influenced his art. However, I was disappointed with the audio-guide - it didn't work on many paintings. It was 5€ extra (besides the not-so-friendly cost of the museum itself), and at the end of the visit I complained to the manager that it didn't work very well and they didn't care much... not a possibility of refund was mentioned. They said they didn't know about this. Well, if so, being the one that actually found a fault in their functioning, I would like to feel more considerate about it.

Great collection- esp the trophy room! Loved the nature, the taxidermy and the artwork. A bit low-lit, but readable. Don’t skip this!

Have been to Paris many times and always try to visit different attractions. Really enjoyed learning more about Victor Hugo and his amazing canon of work and its wider impact. It's a very moving and quite personal museum and even if you don't know his work it is engaging. Lovely and stylish cafe too.

If you want a piece of history, go - you get to see original documents e.g. documents written by Robespierre, letters from Jeanne d'Arc, and also a model of the Bastille built from the original stone! There was also an exhibition about religion and state, which was educational. Pro: free! Con: best if you know French...

    PRO
    * Interesting stuff and history, such as Hotel de Ville, BHV Marais Department Store, Centre Pompidou an the Île de la Cité (including Notre-Dame de Paris) as well as the Île Saint-Louis- the two islands
    * Home of Le Marais, and old Jewish stuff
    * A central tourist location
    * Many centers of entertainment- bars, pubs, restaurant and party places

    CONS
    * Narrow busy streets
    * Crowded and loud at night- to the point where one almost has to walk in the street to get by

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it was my lodging and I chose it because of the kosher food and Jewish stuff. I was happy to be there

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Yes- I hope to return here for visiting and lodging on my soon-to-be next trip.

    ADVICE

In the city only exist this store at Le Marais, even having been some times and if I return or not, reevaluating the overall experience such as products' diversity, brands, prices, staff attention, place in general, location, food-drinks services, and after a deep analysis about quality over payment, for "Grands Magasins" recently visited, my really objective, honest and reasonable rating perhaps should be 4/5 and could be 3rd in my personal ranking. Sorry if doesn't match the others' criteria.

    PROS
    * Unique historical ethnic neighborhood
    * Quaint and pleasant
    * Jewish stuff such as restaurants (some of which have kosher supervision), bakeries and stores and synagogues
    * Part of the historical Le Marias district
    * The Museum of the Shoah is nearby

    CONS
    * Not very lively on weeknights

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because my lodging was in Le Marais and I came to see the area (again) and to find kosher food- I ate at least twice at the Chlew Delishop on Rue de Rosiers

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Going there is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Sure- to find kosher food

    ADVICE
    * An interesting place to see what was once a vibrant Jewish quarter and now it is depressed and quiet and lonely
    * Kosher restaurants and food if you are nearby anyway

We made last minute reservations for new year's eve in Paris and loved the experience. We are American, but we speak French and even though we only got 70% of it. we really enjoyed it. The food is cold buffet, so don't go for the food!

this neighborhood is loaded with historic buildings as it is part of the historic Marais. You will find some museums here, lots of cool cafes and restaurants. I especially like the area around the Place de la Republique and very pretty Temple park. A good part of town where one needs to get lost and wander.
