- Brian PCupar, UK431 contributionsThese gardens on the outskirts of Montrose are a real delight. They comprise three walled gardens plus a woodland walk. The story of the recovery of the gardens from dereliction is fascinating. Great home baking too, at the weekends.Written 30 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mairi DEdinburgh, UK6 contributionsGreat place for lunch. Extensive menu with good home cooking. Always good to have gluten-free alternatives which went down well. - Mark K1 contributionI decided to take my young German shepherd for a walk around the grounds of the castle. The walk is excellent but beware of hostile locals that challenge you why you are there…Written 9 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mrs E12 contributionsFantastic museum in an interesting building. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Came for the two Pictish Stones as huge fans of carved stones from that period, but really enjoyed the other displays and artefacts as well. Was super interesting to read about the history of Montrose and look at the displays, greatly enjoyed the prehistoric section and especially had fun with the smasging geology section which explained the formation of the area and had great fossils and rock samples. They also host art exhibitions.Written 3 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Anne HEdinburgh, UK8 contributionsThis is a superb, breathtaking collection of powerful and moving sculptures in wood and stone by little known C20th Montrosian sculptor. Expertly curated by volunteers. Must be seen. Look for summer open times.
Nearby is a gem of a local Museum, Montrose Museum, packed with interesting collections and artefacts including a display of taxidermy showing local wildlife and habitats which children adore!Written 7 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew P9 contributionsLovely walk to lighthouse, easy going , which was good as I have a bad hip . Plenty to see on the way, saw seals , lots of birds, butterfly's. Fantastic weather. - alibatty🦇Dundee, UK5,031 contributionsHad never even heard of Elephant Rock despite it being virtually on our doorstep, but have made a few trips since discovering it. It’s on a very scenic windswept coastal pathway, bordered with glorious gorse and wildflowers- but beware the dog-poop, as this walk is very popular with negligent dog-walkers. On our last trip there , there were crazy youngsters sunbathing on what looked like a precarious upper area of the rock. The little family memorial en-route is very poignant, as are the fisherman’s cottages - sadly fallen to rack and ruin. This is also true of the limekilns , and there is a warning ⚠️ sign advising of the dangerous state of the building - so perhaps best to admire from afar. Nice views out to sea of sheltering vessels and across to the sands of lovely Lunan Bay.Written 12 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
