Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    PROS
    * A very busy and famous international train station
    * It is the terminus of world-famous international EuroStar and also of other high speed railway lines
    * It is very busy and very crowded- apparently always
    * It has a most interesting and iconic world-famous 19th century architecture inside and outside
    * There are modern 21st century stores shops restaurants and lighting inside
    * There are many public benches for the totally exhausted
    * There are two classic wrought iron statues about people traveling
    * There is a food and adequate, visible and active police and security presence
    * This station is centrally located and next to the British Library and within walking distance to the British Museum
    * It is adjacent to Kings Cross station and very near Euston station

    CONS
    * It is always crowded and busy with people running in all different directions- unless they are exhausted and sprawling on the benches

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I took the EuroStar from London to Amsterdam.

I arrived at 0500 and briefly walked though the not crowded 0500H place- there were even then a good number of people there..

Processing the massive crowds registering for the Eurostar trains was good and efficient

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free to visit but traveling on a train costs money

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure, since this is the way to travel between London and the continent,

    ADVICES
    * "Visit" here if you need this international railway terminal
    * "Visit" here if you want to see the world famous architecture

Gets way to busy. Fast though. Normally very crowded and don't always get a sea t. Extremely noisy. Fun

    Would reccomend if:
You don't mind noise and crowd/comfort

    Wouldn't reccomend if:
You hate noise and need a seat with some space

I'm not sure why London busses are considered an attraction, when they are in effect just a standard transport service that you could find in any major town and city.

Perhaps it is the romanticism attached to the notion of big red double deckers winding their way through smoky streets, or perhaps whoever set this TripAdvisor profile up were thinking of the open top bus tours you can take in the city. I don't know.

My experience of London busses lacked the aforementioned romanticism, as I took the Number 100 (a single decker) from Wapping to St. Paul's.

It was on time, very clean, and was a nice smooth journey. I've always been a bit too reliant on the tube in London, and it was nice to utilise the bus network for once.

I would definitely use it again!

I used their services on the Gatwick Airport - Victoria route and back. The train is clean, fast, you have free access to Wi-Fi, the seats are comfortable. Tickets are expensive. Unfortunately, on the way there, the train had a breakdown and we had to take another train, from an intermediate station.

Busy central London station that is in need of a major upgrade. The concourse is huge with very little seating and train platforms are only notified at best 10 minutes before departure which causes a mad rush to the relevant platform. The men’s toilets are a disgrace being dirty and smelly. The food options are poor and very expensive.

Visited on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 As part of a day trip to London. Woolwich Ferry. It was still free and my first time on it since I went on it as part of the circular cycle around East London back in 2012. I exited the King George V DLR Station and walked the rather decrepit streets the short distance to the Woolwich Ferry. You can queue with your vehicle or walk under the Thames using the foot tunnel. I chose to queue and as there was only 1 of the 2 Ferrys in operation the time to wait was circa 20-30 mins. Once the Ferry was on my side, you could access the ferry and either stand in the open or the covered side seating area. The ferry takes about 10 mins to empty its vehicle and people contents and be refilled. The crossing takes about 10 mins and provides a free view down the Thames. Once in Woolwich, it is a similarly poor/decrepit area of now South London. Either way, unless you have a reason to use this free ferry there is little value to doing so.

This underground station must be one of the coldest in London. It's drafty even in summer. However, the staff cannot be held responsible for their surroundings. Recently I observed one employee go beyond the call of duty to help passenger after passenger understand where to go. He was so patient and good-humoured.

    PROS
    * Convenient tube station
    * Very near the British Museum
    * Next to Russell Square
    * Storefront-tore entrance
    * Easy one minute travel to out from the St. Pancras/Kings Cross train stations
    * Not expensive to use the tube

    CONS
    Crowded

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… after walking from St. Pancreas Train Station to the British Museum, I entered this station and returned to collect and fetch my luggage by entering this station. It was certainly OK- my first encounter with the London Underground on that visit.

    WOULD I VISIT AGAIN?
Sure/ if it were convenient for me after my next visit to the British Museum

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Sure

    ADVICES
Use it to travel to the awesome world-class British Museum

    Painful journey!
What is with the seats on GWE Paddington to Swansea service? For newish rolling stock, it's the most uncomfortable, in fact, painful ride. There is no softness or support in seats, and it's like there is a bar through the middle of the seat. The back is hard, too. For the price of the fare you expect better. With the rickety rough ride of the line, it just makes it seem worse.
    Do something about it !!!

Leeds to London Kings Cross first class experience:

I took the first class because I had 2 suitcases one large and one cabin bag, I booked first class because I wanted to travel comfortably because of my health issues in the joints. When I got to the carriage a LNER staff was standing right outside the carriage. She saw me struggling and looking around to ask for some help to get my luggage inside the train, however no welcoming smile, instead she just stood there staring at me. I then called for help from someone inside then she raises her voice and says to a youngish man ‘this lady needs help, help her if you can’ I was really appalled but the man was kind enough to help me with the big case. Then I was trying to get inside 2 ladies stand there literally blocking my way, looking confused and asking if I am meant to be line carriage K! I said yes I am, by then I was quite irritated. Then once I sat in my seat they started serving drinks and food. I do not drink any alcohol and I try to avoid sugary drinks so I thought I will have a coffee but they said that will come later. I ate my sandwich with crisps and I realised I needed a drink so I asked for a glass of water to a lady who was serving and she says this is food cart and I need to ask someone who serves drinks. I asked again another person a little while later he said someone will bring it . After about half an hour still no water and they are walking up and down to serve others. In the end the drinks lady says she just has cool drinks and she doesn’t have still water. In the end she tells another lady after my face grew serious to get me a bottle of water. After sometime they whisper among themselves and the other lady who came to serve me coffee asks me loudly apparently you asked for water also is that right’ her tone was quite patronising and unnecessary loud (maybe she thinks she is being confident but all it sounded rude and arrogant) I said yes I asked for water quite sometime ago and she says ‘what did you say’ and I repeated and she makes a face and then she says train has not left long ago! Train journey is 2.5 hours and I have paid for first class service and I was asking for water.
What I found appalling and disgusting was the staff could not recognise serving water is basic human decency and I just found LNER less diverse staff to be racists. We are in the 21st century and almost in 2025, when will these people behave accordingly? They are still stuck in some olden era where they thought only people with certain appearances travelled first class. Get a life ladies, maybe time for you to retire if you have that disgusting attitude.
On a positive note in the end when I was de boarding one of the youngish tall lovely lady came and offered help and helped me.
LNER your staff needs training in EDI

This service is awful, we were stranded in Luton because there were no substitutes for cancelled trains. Unbelievably unreliable and absolutely inexcusable for a place like this

Pride if face seems to have been lost to the shadows, as HS1 fleet. used to be well kept, a few years ago. But today, now I occasionally opt for a quicker skip over from Stratford to Kings cross, I have consistently found the interior drab, heavily worn-out flooring, and gunk on the door step plates, and don't get me started on the awful pong of pee throughout the carriages! What on earth is going on with their fleet of trains I cannot imagine. For the price paid for the trip, I would expect Southeastern to keep up the pride they once had. Such a shame, as the trains as a means of travel, do a very good job of delivering the traveller at a good pace. Come on Southeastern! You can do this!
