Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Parking at school or further down. Walking up there do-able with an average fitness. Amazing view to the CBD of Auckland!

This was a fantastic find! This museum has so much rich, fascinating content that’s displayed in a such a way that’s both visually appealing and super accessible. The museum building itself is a wonder, blending both the old with the new and whilst relatively small, there’s so much information presented we could’ve spent hours in there! The staff were lovely too - friendly, helpful and really knew their stuff! As well as being packed out with incredibly interesting stories and facts about naval history (NZ’s and more generally) the entire museum is a beautiful tribute to those who have served on behalf of all of us, and is a place that stays with you long after you leave. Lest we forget…

We arrived at closing timing, but the volunteers there, opened up for us and we had a great hour walking around with our own personal guide. It’s quirky, loads of local stuff a church they moved down the hill. Go and visit it for an hour.

For uninterrupted views of the skyline of Auckland, we decided to visit Cyril Bassett lookout. Great views but the best thing about this lookout was the fact that it was quiet. We were there for about 30min and the whole time we were the only ones there.

It is a very basic lookout with 2 park benches and the location is nestled among residential houses and no parking (other than street parking) which is understandable as it is a residential area and not a touristy gathering point.

Just outside the Devonport Library is the memorial featuring a soldier sometimes referred to as "untidy" and noted for its informality and realism. It is just a couple of hundred metres from the ferry dock.

What a cute library for such a small area! I loved the architecture, the seating areas, the Art Deco details. If I lived nearby I would want to come here often to soak it all in. Kudos to all!

The Reserve is next to the beach, just a short walk from the ferry terminal. The playground equipment even suits older children and the location is close to everything. The Library is across the road and food shops are nearby.

The Mt Cambrai Reserve was originally another of the volcanic cones near Devonport. It has been quarried, but still is impressive, with large areas of grassland and some interesting vegetation. It can be accessed from Vauxhall Raod (Museum site) and from Church Street. The paths can be steep and many people walk dogs through here.

Bath Street is a short road that leads to Cheltenham Beach. The reserve has play equipment and drinking water and there is a boat ramp at the end of the street. Rangitoto Island is ahead across the water. It is a beautiful location.

Situated in the Domain, which itself is just a large grassy area, is an interesting little fenced playground close to the beach.

After trying some of their chocolate where I was staying I went to their shop in Devonport. Beautiful handmade chocolate...something for all tastes. Liked that you can make up your own gift boxes.
