On a very constricted site Giulio Romano managed to construct a magnificent triumphal arch of a facade in a smallish square.
In the center is the famous vial buried (won't spoil it for you with info) A must see, and take your time to view the paintings.

Best to visit in spring or autumn, using a Mantua pass, which gives you access to various sites in the town
There is a small cafe & toilets on site and a great outdoor cafe just at the entrance to the park (super to have a panini and beer, resting our tired feet and sit in the sun before visiting palazzo te)

Took one of the toursit boats (Virgilio, Andis tours) and for 9Euros each we had fantastic views of the city from two of the lakes, together with a trip through the natural landscape that surrounds the city.
It is an easy 20 minute walk or bike ride from the Palazzo Ducale area along the causeway via Legnago (SP 10) to the other side of the lake for the classic skyline view of Mantua.
