I am giving this a 4-star rating, because I consider it a very good gallery, compared to others its size. British Columbia does not have any art galleries to compare with Quebec, Ontario, or even Alberta, which is strange. Perhaps the Vancouver Art Gallery's recent fundraising will result in a much more impressive gallery in BC's biggest city. The AGGV is relatively small, with no attempt to be encyclopedic, but it hosts good temporary exhibitions, and has a small permanent collection on view. Currently (December, 2021), it has a good exhibition of BC's most famous painter, Emily Carr ("Seeing and Being Seen"), and some other artists inspired by her. My favourite exhibit was an adorable porcelain model of her house by Valerie Pugh. There is a second exhibition: "The Story of Blue and White [porcelain]" (Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and Dutch). Finally, the selection of art available for rental or purchase is well worth viewing. BTW, the gallery is open until 9:00 pm on Thursday evenings, and only a donation is expected after 5:00 pm.

This is a very popular shopping area in Victoria off Government Street and backed by Douglas Street. I was in search of the perfect shoes. Elevators and stairs, interesting architecture. Truthfully I prefer the small specialty boutiques in the area.

The indoor mall is a good alternative when the weather is bad. Good social distancing observed by most and some good shopping.

I have been buying meat at this butcher for over 30 years. Great quality, great prices, great service. You must try one of their many types of in house made sausages! But in reality, you will enjoy anything you decide on. Can't be beat.

My sister, niece and I all have a love of all things chocolate and peanut butter. I used to think Purdy's had the best peanut butter/cholotate daisy's. But recently my neice told me I had to try Rogers. I did, and I'm not going back to Purdy's ever again. I bought 10 Rogers Cocolate/Peanut Butter cups for my sister and one for me. They are simply, the best.

I love uptown when it's decorative for the seasons. It definitely brings the festive spirit. There are many great stores here, like qoola frozen yogurt (even great in winter, try the red velvet), I love window shopping too.

Avenue Gallery is my favourite gallery in Victoria, so when we renovated our house I looked there for the perfect piece of art for a feature wall in our home. I found the perfect painting, which the gallery owner, Heather, personally came and hung for us. Having Heather come in person to our home means a lot to us, so that this special painting by Shinah Lee is perfectly placed in its feature location. The pieces that Heather chooses for her gallery are unique and inviting. there is no pressure to buy - just super welcoming people and exceptional art in paint, glass, pottery, sculpture and jewellery. This gallery has it all!

It was a revelation when we discovered Sean Schuster and his art: spectacular landscape panoramas, dazzling cityscapes, and other breathtaking images from nature. All taken with a magician's eye for composition and light. But beyond that Sean is wonderful to work with. We decided we wanted a large edition of 'Sacred Falls' on the wall facing us as we descended our stairs. We sent him a photo of the location and he did an impeccable job of rendering size and frame alternatives of the image onto the wall. Based on the renderings we knew that the 7-foot version would be the perfect size. It's now in place and we feel as though we are descending to the bottom of the falls as we go down the steps - almost feeling the spray as we look up.

The artifacts as well as the owner (Thomas) are a wealth of information on the history of First Nations and the Victoria area. A great collection to see. We were recommended there by the museum staff and it was well worth the trip.

Nearly all year long, a group of cheerful, fun and dedicated volunteers run a small but growing Friday church sale. Through their efforts, in the fine, old Victoria neighborhood of James Bay, a gem of a bargain hunter's market springs up once a week. Locals know to be there when it opens at ten for the best finds.

Previous treasures have ranged from a Bose tv speaker to a cribbage board carved from an antler, from a 19th century Dutch etched plaque to Ronson dinner candles. Good used clothing, books, kitchenware and appliances, wall art, lighting fixtures, jewelry, luggage, furniture, and just plain old, odd stuff available for the bother of a good browse and a few dollars.

From May to September they'll be open Saturdays as well. Combined with the Superior farmers/craft market just down the road, it would be a great way to start a weekend's worth of out-and-about.

Don't leave Oak Bay without stopping for a browse in this fine gallery. The architecture alone is a draw. Outside is tudor-ish quaint, a fountain impresses, a lovely euro style coffee shop sits next door. The interior has nooks, several levels, a lovely staircase and is well lit throughout. They have a fine permanent collection, including outer statuary and regularly changing featured exhibits, recently one in honour of a visit from Margaret Atwood. If something strikes your fancy, the prices are not outrageous for quality original artwork.

I keep dropping in to this very accessible and welcoming gallery. It's a neat way to feel connected to the University of Victoria in nearby Saanich. Currently there is an excellent exhibit on aboriginal basket weaving called 'We Carry Our Ancestors' and in contrast perhaps, a beautiful mini show of modern designer Yolonda Skelton's clothing artistry.
Pop in for a view anytime you wish to be impressed.
