Superb place, natural and a holy place for the original Natives.

I was there many years ago, when it was not well known and transportation was by private sea plane, as it is still, but you can also charter a boat to get there if you want a special place indeed.

What I liked best, is that you can select from the chain of the pools, the temperature you like, as cold as the ocean it flows into and as hot as the waterfall, because the spring is simply much too hot.

If you like nature, mountains and water, you won’t get better than the UNESCO biosphere of Clayoquot Sound. Long settled by Americans, draft dodgers and Catholic priests, photos depict the First Nations on the West coast (Nuu-chah-Nulth Council Maaqtusiis from the area of Naciks or Ahousaht reserve) taken to several local historical Indian residential school sites. Cycling highway 4 or renting a car from Nanaimo airport offers a mountainous and scenic few hours’ driving stretch to Tofino, where a fishing vessel (G.I. Charles) or water taxi ride (Robinson’s Elsie Jay) can be prearranged from the government dock. To get to the Wellness Centre or Wild Side Trail on Ahousaht Nation’s Flores Island, pack food or ask someone knowledgeable of Ahousaht Fisheries about obtaining
local oysters, Halibut, salmon, red snapper, copper and cod fish. From Templar Channel /Clayoquot Sound’s waters you’ll spot whales, otters, or grazing black bears around Vancouver Island. Riding by Pacific swells at the sandy stretch near Esowesta Reserve and Casiiwa (tsa-shii-wa) Incinerator Rock at Long Beach (24-hour info. 250-726-3604) there are park washrooms; and past the Botanical Garden you can stop at shops. Seaman Luke Robinson of ElsieJay has everything you need to know if heading to destinations in and around Tofino. Rhino Cafe offers great coffee and a washroom stop in the town. Just outside Nanaimo on the way to Port Alberni, there’s an information centre on the South side of highway 4 with free restroom access and picnic tables. Further on, you can pick up smoked salmon at Tom Watts’ home and buy his cookbook during another stop West of Port Alberni. If staying at Tofino, you can also catch a boat to Flores’ skateboard park or Hot Springs, and enjoy a kayak excursion. You’ll be entranced by magical Clayoquot Sound, where the Pacific Northwest drew explorers over three centuries. It’s a beautiful place that’s full of marine adventures to die for.

This was tough but worth it! It took 2:30 up and about the same down. We have no hiking experience but fairly fit and able. Down was harder and a bit scary at times, we went fairly quickly with 1 stops and it still took as long to get down as up.
When we got to the top we couldn’t see a thing, too much cloud cover. 20mins later it was clear. Well worth the hike for the view.
The ground was very boggy at the bottom and slippery then going into a steep incline holding roots to help pull us up. Quite the adventure!

It was really good, saw a grey whale, lots of otters, they're so cute and some sea lions. Had a great time. Would go again and guide was super nice & informative, I can't remember her name but she was awesome 😊

Tofino is a piece of paradise. This tour was right up there, and we could not have been looked after better. Saw bears and a Wolf! Jazz looked after us superbly!

We did an early morning bear watching trip on a stunning morning, we were so lucky with the weather. But these guys were fabulous, a combination of Keith, Scott and Dave looked after our group. Friendly, knowledgeable, clearly very experienced and always respectful of everyone and everything in the surroundings. We watched two bears up close for ages. Unforgettable.

We went on a guided tour of Clayoquot Sound and Meares Island on April 27th! It was our first time sea kayaking, and our guide (Jess) was an absolute gem and helped us through any tricky bits while providing enough mini breaks. Both of us are also extremely prone to seasickness, and I am relieved to say it wasn't an issue for either of us. We saw many seals pop their faces out from the water (so cute!), more eagles than we could count, and many colourful starfish and crabs. Having the chance to see wildlife without being on a loud large vessel was a treat in itself. We enjoyed the little Meares Island walk to the Tree of Life too, just watch your step on the boardwalk. We recommend wearing an outfit that is as rainproof as possible, and specifically keeping the cuffs of your jacket tight if it's cool out (the seawater will drip down from the paddle). I apologize for my (lack of) photography skills, and I promise the experience was oodles more magical than what my photos show.

We had the most amazing experience with Surf Sister on April 28th. I was pretty nervous about the cold water and the physical skills needed to surf, but as promised by our two skilled instructors, the wet suits kept us incredibly warm and the surfing itself was so much fun! Both of our instructors made us feel comfortable right away, they were so gentle and kind, and kept everything perfectly light hearted. Catching waves with the board is already such a satisfying accomplishment, and I was lucky to learn quickly enough to stand on the board! Surf Sister provided an extremely safe and loving environment, we'll definitely return anytime we go to Tofino.

We took the 2,5hrs tour with the guide Laurence. The agency was easy to reach out, the staff is very professional and careful. The guide was very knowledgeable and fun and spoke 2 languages, making the explanation easier. The tour was rich of information. It was perfect!

We booked the bear watch trip- it was fantastic. We were on a zodiac with a small number of other guests. I felt very safe. The captain/ guide was very knowledgeable and knew the waters well. We saw two bears, harbour seals, and an eagle. It was wonderful and a great excursion. I w

Amazing experience from start to finish. Answered all our questions and more by phone, helped accommodate a few unique challenges and when we arrived in Tofino - the team at the shop were awesome. Loved that we just showed up at beach and suits and boards were ready to go! Theo the instructor was welcoming, informative, patient and attentive. Photos are great too! Everything was perfect - HIGHLY recommend!

How is this place not #1 on the list of things to do in Vancouver Island or even British Columbia, maybe even Canada!

We scoured the internet for the best zip line experience and even drove 1:45 to get here....

WORTH IT! Ricky and Duncan were FANTASTIC. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the area and First Nation culture. Told many amazing stories and history about the land we were on. They took the utmost care for our safety on the lines.

The zip lines were awesome! Fast and long, incredible views. We never once felt uneasy or that anything was not 100% super safe!

Go here, stop your search, learn, zip, enjoy!!!

Great fun, well organized (think Geoff in office, may have remembered name wrong), friendly instructors (Raffaele and Jake) gave really good clear tips and were very encouraging. Gear was good quality and was surprised how warm it felt in the suit considering it was still March. Thanks for a fun afternoon!

Along with my sister, we did an evening tour, and wow, it was everything I expected and so much more. Everyone at Atleo Air was so relaxed and friendly, which made the experience even better. You could tell Ashton, the pilot, loved flying. He pointed out things along the way, answered questions, and gave us the opportunity to enjoy the sights. And the sights, magical, don't think I've seen so many trees in one place. And what a gorgeous sunset. If you get the chance to visit Tofino, I would 100% recommend using Atleo Air.
