Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mike is a wealth of knowledge, and his assistants are the nicest, most hard working people imaginable. Give yourself a few extra hours after when the class says it will be over. Sometimes it runs long, and you won't want to leave.

Jusn was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. He led our group through the Mercado Abastos and knew many of the vendors and their histories. It was delicious, fascinating and informative. (Folks who havent been to global open air markets - put aside your fears and see how much of the world shops without Costco or supermarkets. This is fresh, straight from farm) You will need walking shoes, and it is a gem of a tour that dives deep into the culturally beautiful cuisine of Oaxaca.

What a great class! Our trip to the market was very special. We got to taste all kinds of cheeses and learn about the different chilies. The class was super fun, friendly and casual and we made an awesome meal. We would highly recommend!

Our cooking class with Chef Victor was amazing, one of the highlights of our trip! First because it felt very authentic. Victor seems like he has genuine relationships with people at the market. He is a proud Oaxacan who learned some of his best recipes from his grandma and who talks about local food and ingredients with knowledge and passion. He speaks English very well but is easy to understand in Spanish as well. He's a very chill and friendly guy, who'll happily talk about life in Mexico or give local recommendations. The food was delicious, with a great variety of dishes and lovely complimentary drinks. No advanced cooking skills required. Just one tip; come with an empty stomach, it's a lot of food. Muchas gracias Victor y el equipo de Etnofood!

Absolutely amazing! I want this woman to meet my Mom hahah. The tour had everything I wanted: amazing food, stories of Oaxaca culture differences and a truely lovely guide. Food was timed correctly, fresh fruit and lively drinks. Specialities and not just what’s on every big turístic restaurant menu. I have done many food tours but this was my favorite!

It's hard to put into words the joy and kindness Chef Adhey Andrade and her husband brought to this experience. Being welcomed into someone's home and having her share so much of her cultural history, while having such a great time was an absolute treat. I highly, highly recommend you chose this culinary experience. Working in a traditional indigenous kitchen using traditional tools and foods, on a terrace overlooking the city.....nothing can compare. This was great and great fun!

If you want to know the real food of Oaxaca you have to do this activity, Betsy is the most passionate and knowledgeable about Oaxacan gastronomy, she also supports local women's businesses, this is a great experience that you have to do if you visit Oaxaca. I suggest you just have a coffee before starting the tour because there are a lot of delicious foods to try

The class is a complete experience -- educational, fun, and very hands-on. The trip to the market was informative and the chef who took us explained everything. She also allowed us to look around and explore, and to ask questions about other things in the market.
In the kitchen, the chef and her assistant were patient, kind, and thorough. They carefully demonstrated everything for us before having us try on our own. I speak only a little Spanish, and communication was no problem -- both the chef and her assistant were able to clearly communicate everything in English when necessary (which was often). They also creatively accommodated one of the other participant's food allergies. Together, we made Mole, Tortillas, Quesadillas, and Salsa. At the end, we had an amazing dinner together.
    I highly recommend this experience!

    We loved this cooking class!!
Su was very knowledgeable and patient with all of us.
We started by making authentic Oaxacan chocolate and drank it with bread. It was very good! We made food from scratch and it was very delicious! Making tortillas with the masa and Memelitas was so fun and so yummy! Their daughter made a cocktail with Mezcal and Jamaica and it was excellent.
We helped make yellow mole with chicken and it was so good!
    We truly loved the experience.
Jorge her husband was very nice to pick us up from downtown.
    I highly recommend this class.

We had a fantastic time on this tour. Tony walked and talked us through SO many great murals, workshops, and spots around Oaxaca Centro; he made us feel like we were locals. Have a good breakfast before you get started, carry a bottle of water, and wear comfortable shoes and sunblock. The tour took 4 hours with Tony and an additional hour at the cacao workshop; all of it totally worth it. Highly recommended this tour, it was the perfect way to kick off our trip and familiarize ourselves with the city.

The Art Workshops and Chocolate Shops tour was a fantastic experience.

We were guided through the streets of Oaxaca by knowledgeable, passional individuals. They made extra effort to tailor to time and plan to our specific tastes and interests. We visited several excellent chocolate shops and several printmaking studios. At each location, the work and craftsmanship were outstanding. Quite a bit of the tour was "behind the scenes" -- a chance to see artists at work, to see chocolate being made, and to meet the artists themselves. There was no pressure to buy anything, and we were urged to return on our own time if we wanted to experience more. We received as much or as little explanation and background as we wanted in each location.

Etnofood (and Teolab) are staffed with amazing, caring, dedicated individuals. They are guided by passion for sharing and promoting their culture, and they go out of their way to help visitors hear, see, smell, feel, touch, and -- most importantly -- taste what is most genuine and significant about Oaxaca's culture. I took several classes and tours with this organization, and each one was excellent -- entertaining, enlightening, fun, and educational. In my opinion, there is no better way to learn about and begin to truly appreciate Oaxaca's culture than through Etnofood.

This was our second tour with Culinary Backstreets and Luis was our guide. Luis was so friendly and accommodating for our palates. We spent the rest of our time in Oaxaca returning to the same spots which were off the beaten path and much more delicious and affordable than other options as the city gentrifies. Highly recommend!
