- Guillermo1 contributionI had a fantastic experience visiting Grutas de GarcĂa. The SUV was comfortable, and our guide was incredibly kind, professional, and a delight to converse with. Everything felt safe, well-organized, and clean, and the pickup was punctual. The caves themselves were absolutely stunning, making for a great sightseeing adventure.
To top it off, we visited a charming small town, where our guide even treated us. This may be clear to others who are familiar with rapelling, but if you let go of the rope you will fall down the cliff face (~150ft?). I'd highly recommend bringing gloves so you hands don't get tired of holding the rope.
Also best to have good balance to not fall down a few times on the loose rock trail up/down. Helmets are necessary (and provided) for falling rocks. He picked us up right on time with cold drinks and welcomed us with a wonderful conversation about Monterrey’s history and culture. His knowledge of Santiago and the surrounding areas made the experience even more enriching.
Alex answered all our questions about Monterrey’s education system, industries, and daily life, sharing insightful details with enthusiasm. He spoke perfect English, making everything easy to follow. Lunch at a small local spot was a great touch delicious food and an authentic experience.
This was the perfect time of year to visit, as there weren’t many tourists, making the trip even more enjoyable. Emilio told us all about the old iron foundry that closed in 1986. He answered all our questions. Our driver, Oberlin, is very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us through San Pedro and told us about the caves. After waiting for about 45 mins for a pick up, I contacted them through TripAdvisor. They responded immediately, and after sorting out the booking, they immediately sent us a guide. Our guide, Juan Velazco, was very pleasant. He answered all of our questions. The waterfall is pretty, the lunch at Las Palomas in Santiago was very good. Overall, it was a nice way to spend a day. He was a great guide, we chatted the entire time up and down, and he gave me lots of tips about Monterrey. I really can't say enough positive things about the hike. It's pretty steep on the way up, but the hike was full of persons of all ages moving at their own pace. This is a day I'll remember.
