Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We reach early at around 8+am (from Takayama) and luckily us, the tour groups are not here yet so we have at least an hour of peaceful walk. Beautiful houses, which look like a praying hand. A must to go!

As it gets crowded, it is hard to take solo photos with the houses if you don't want others in your photo. My suggestion is to head to the open-air museum at the far side of the village if you have time as hardly anyone goes there.

Unique style houses and area to visit with mountains and a bridge that crosses over a beautiful river. If going in the summer, as with all of Japan, being an umbrella. Felt like I was inside a fairytale.

It is a 15mins or so walk uphill to this observatory. There is a sitting area which you can take in the great view of the whole village and a photo-taking services (1 small photo for free but you need to pay if you want a larger version). There are cafes and souvenir shops there.

I think this is a must go! This is our first point upon arrival at Shirakawago. We walk up the hill to the observatory in about 15mins I think. It is inclined but doable. From here, you can view the whole village and take a rest. There is phototaking service which they give you a small photo for free but charge you if you want a bigger version.

Ogimachi Village is considered the largest village in Shirakawa-Go. If you walk up to the observatory, you can see the entire village. The walk to the observatory isn't too difficult and won't take you more than 20 minutes.

We came on January 4 and unfortunately there wasn't any snow.

A nice bridge to start or to finish the visit in Shiragawa which is a must for visitors in Japan. The place is a World Heritage site and worth a visit.
The bridge is specially nice when the river below is flowing heavily.

At 5.00 p.m. on Monday, all shops were closed. Luckily, the rest room were still opened and still very clean. Very closed to the village, it is so convenience.
