Agate Travel planned an absolutely wonderful trip for us to Japan! It was a great experience working with Emily through the planning stages. She answered all my questions well within 1 business day and gave clear and helpful instructions and advice including everything from making payments to how to navigate travel within each city. I admired how organized she was through it all. For example, I found it useful that she would number the emails in the subject line each time a new topic was covered. It was really helpful when checking back on things.

As for the trip itself, the hotel accommodations they arranged for us were very good indeed and the tour guides were outstanding, especially Heidi in Tokyo and Minnie in Kyoto. Agate's approach to travel with tour guides the first 1-2 days in a city followed by a day on your own was fit well for our family and allowed us to get the lay of the land and then explore on our own (relying heavily on helpful great tips and helpful recommendations from the local tour guides). I knew very little about Japan before this trip and now I feel like I have a wonderful appreciation of and understanding of Japan and its wonderful history and culture thanks to Agate and their perfectly planned and executed itineraries.

TK is a great photographer and guide. We were comfortable traveling in his van. He made it easy for us, parking strategically to minimize walking on a hot day! We only walked downhill unlike the other tourists :). We were able to take some great photos away from other people, and were able to find a spot to eat some Hida beef on the way home. Great second day with TK.

Our guide was great. He was friendly and helpful and made sure we had a great experience. Not having to worry about managing bus schedules to get from Kanazawa to Shirakawago really took a lot of stress out of the visit. Shirakawago was definitely worth the time to visit. The light rain and mist really gave the mountain village a unique and beautiful dimension.

We booked our Shirakawa-go and Takayama trip with Omakase-tour.com I specifically wanted to book with Omakase-tour.com because I have read a lot of good reviews about them. I sent them an email and they were very swift with their response. I booked the one that included the guide, the driver and vehicle with pick-up/drop-off from our hotel in Nagoya. There were 5 of us: 3 adults, 1 teenager and 1 pre-teen. The trip was last December 24, 2023.

During the whole booking process, Omakase-tour.com was very attentive and thorough with the details of our booking. I want to thank them for having Toshi-san as our guide for this trip.

We were very fortunate to have Toshi-san as our guide during our trip to Shirakawa-go and Takayama. Even before the day of the trip, he was already frequently updating us about the weather at Shirakawa-go, about what to expect and clothing/shoe items to bring (because of the snow).

During the day of the trip, the more than 3 hours drive from Nagoya going to Shirakawa-go did not feel long, because aside from being mesmerized by the beautiful scenery around us, Toshi-san kept us entertained with games, trivia and stories. He created a mini trivia game that kept all of us including my teenager and pre-teen hooked. He even arranged prizes for all of us. Before we even noticed it, we were already at Shirakawa-go.
He brought us first to the top of the mountain (view deck) to admire and take pictures of the whole of Shirakawa-go, he then guided us going down the mountain path by foot towards the Shirakawa-go proper. Along the way he told us stories and facts about Shirakawa-go. I was also able to take so many pictures while going down the mountain, it was really breathtaking! We were able to go inside one of the farm houses and learned so much about how life was back then 200 years ago. He never tires of answering our questions as we were very curious about the farm houses in the area. It was my first time to see Persimmon Trees! My teens were able to play snow because the whole town was covered in thick snow when we visited last December 24, 2023. Toshi-san brought us to a store that sold tasty pork buns, beef cubes on stick and sausage. All of them tasted really good especially the sausage, as Toshi-san informed us that the sausage in this area is especially good and you can only find this here. We never wanted to leave the place as it was really so breathtaking.

After Shirakawa-go, Toshi-san brought us to Takayama, He brought us to a store that sold Hida Beef sushi, it tasted so good! He also brought us to the historical houses and shared so many facts about the area. We also went to a shop that sold Hida Beef curry, Toshi-san was so helpful when I was deciding what to buy, he asked the store person which was the bestseller among them.

Toshi-san also brought us to an archery place to try out ancient Japanese Archery, he told us that this was how the Samurai trained during their time. It was very interesting and challenging! I was not able to hit any bulls-eye out of all the 10 tries haha!

It was already early evening when we finished the trip. Toshi-san brought us safely back to the hotel. He double checked the vehicle to see if there were any things left. He gave a special gift to my son which made my son really happy.

All in all the whole trip was so meaningful and truly truly memorable. I know this is because Toshi-san really took good care of us and guided us throughout this whole trip. He is truly a great guide.

I would 100% recommned Omakase tours and Toshi-san to all my friends!

This was a fantastic experience. Not only were we picked up at our Airbnb but our tour guide took us to shirakawago to tour but then took us to a less crowded gasho style home where we got to have tea and learn about the home history from the family who has owned it, 19th gen. The drive was smooth and relaxing. Highly recommend.

We had an exceptional afternoon exploring Shirakawa-go with Mai, our driver/guide (who was excellent, by the way). She epitomized kindness, punctuality, and helpfulness. Mai's extensive knowledge and willingness to address our inquiries made our experience even more enriching. She went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, not only by taking us to our hotel and helping with our luggage but also by dropping us off at the car rental office. This private transfer to Takayama and visit to Shirakawa-go will undoubtedly become one of the most cherished memories of our Japanese journey.

We’re pickup promptly as soon as our train arrive.
Our Driver, Mr Takayama Hato held a sign by the gate and greeted us.

The car was parked at the curb side and no need waiting.
The car was clean and very comfortable. Mr. Hato is a good driver.

At the destination, he even offered to walk us to the shuttle station so we wouldn’t get lost.

    Very happy with the service!

The driver that picked me up was not Koshida. It was Yuta. I'm not sure if he was the same person, but anyway. He picked me up from the hotel. He explained to me the itinerary. He told me that we would first visit morning market in Takayama. Since I've just been to other markets in Tokyo and Kanazawa, I asked if instead we went on Hakusan White Road, since I read reviews online that it's got beautiful scenery. He was okay with it. The Hakusan White Road lived up to its promise. It was marvelous! It's got beautiful scenery of valleys, mountains, waterfalls. We stopped several times to enjoy the view and take pictures. Yuta was always gracious and hospitable and really tried to explain things (in English!). He always made sure I was comfortable. He drove well. The car was clean and comfortable.
Then we went to Takayama for a nice lunch. We headed back to Shirakawa-go to visit the UNESCO World Heritage village. In the village we walked around which was delightful. Again, Yuta explained things that I wouldn't have known otherwise.
All in all, I definitely truly recommended this tour.

Snow Monkey Resorts was great to work with to arrange this excursion for us. We were a family of 8 with children between the age of 3 and 9 and had seniors amongst us as well. Our guide and driver accommodated our needs and adjusted the itinerary to our needs. The vehicle was comfortable and equipped with a child seat for the youngest child. Enjoyed the narratives provided by our guide and all the additional tips he provided about dining options around Takayama was very helpful too. Would definitely recommend to others wanting. To arrange a private tour of the area.

TK is very professional with his strong sense of beauty. We are so content with all the photos as the angle and colour tone are amazing.

Since we are handicapped for posing, he is patient to guide us for pose and results are natural as he will also capture our interactive moments.

He knows well about the village and could capture various background with nice angles.

Communication is good as well as his English is fluent and provide suggestion on time for taking photos which could avoid crowd.

He picks us up at hotel and drives us back after the photo session which is cozy during cold weather.

Photos sharing is swift & efficient. Totally worth the price and must try. What a brilliant experience! Thanks a lot TK! :)
