Fonteney Abbey is a UNESCO site in private ownership which has been lovingly restored and bought back to life.

We wandered around taking in the amazing architecture and sites, sort of following the owl's trail, until we happened on the huge square which we later found out is called Place de la Liberation.

It has something for everyone considering it has a zoo, aquarium (small), WWII and resistance museum, local heritage museum, amazing views and amazing architecture.
The fortress itself is stunning, and you can climb up to the top of the curtain wall on either side, for excellent views of the fortress itself, the town, and the river.

Time is sacred and I extended this stay because of the wonderful peace and tranquillity the site provided I expected a lit of tourists and only solitude in my room.
The convent has now been changed into a sanctuary site and the rooms the sisters used are now serving as lodging rooms for pilgrims.

You are able to walk up the side of the waterfall on a wide path and enjoy the views from the top.
It was definitely worth the stuff climb up to see the view from the top of the largest fall.
