What travellers are saying
- SophiaKAthens, Greece1,140 contributionsThe Okawachiyama is a small mountainous village that is producing porcelain since the 17th century. History has it that the pottery produced there at that time was mainly for the Imperial court, shoguns and feudal lords. Thus, the need to preserve the production techniques secret was of utmost importance so the ruling clan set up a guard post at the entrance to control the kilns. The potters were mainly Koreans, as Korea was where porcelain making came from and although they were simple workers, they enjoyed high status in the local society. The village is surrounded by a forest of exceptional beauty and fragments of pottery are embedded almost everywhere, on the pavement, walls, etc.Written 12 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - steveP3242ILSeto, Japan54 contributionsBeautiful "Imari-yaki" (Local pottery style), situated in a lovely mountain location. My wallet gets lighter every time I go! Not that I need anything to add to my collection, but I always see something that I just HAVE to have!Written 19 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 900nipponTokyo, Japan521 contributions伊万里焼が沢山あるのかと思ったらなんのスペースだかよくわからない場所でした。休憩にはちょうどよいけどソフトクリームなんて洒落たものは無いようです。
I thought this was a sightseeing spot but it was not. You cannot find good Imarii shops here. It is just for a break. There are no fancy things.Written 16 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the same building of Matsumura Tetsudo station, there is a tourist information. - Kimitaka STaichung, Taiwan14,141 contributionsAt the corner of an intersection near Imari station, there are ceramic dolls. If you walk around downtown, you can find many objects. But these dolls are really symbolic of this city.Written 19 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kimitaka STaichung, Taiwan14,141 contributionsIt is a park on a small mountain in Okawachi area. From the park, you can enjoy a view of the ceramic village. In the park, there are many objects made of ceramics. But unfortunately they are not well maintained. As I visited, there were almost no visitors. It is a little bit pity.Written 3 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
