Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do plan to spend at least 3 hours or more for a decent visit .Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I took the bus from town to the base and ran from the carpark. The terrain is mostly runnable aside from when you get closer to the summit (if you're not adverse to hill running). I did find the signage a bit lacking nearer the bottom, but I started late so was running near dusk so may have missed some. Return it took me ~80 minutes. I spent about the same amount of time waiting for the bus back to town (in the pitch dark). Haha. Great experience and beautiful views. - Yasuko GPortland, OR293 contributionsI was expecting 10 times bigger, just got wrong impression when I heard " lake ". I went early, tried to beat the crowd. Less than 20 minutes to circle around with taking photo.Written 20 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - thelonious22Seongnam4,382 contributionsA small recreation of 50’s and 60’s Japan. The museum is made up of two small alleyways with recreations of various shops and living quarters from that era. As I grew up in a Japanese style house in Korea, where so many things were Japanese influenced, it was a walk down memory lane for me as well.Written 4 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tour-birdsSingapore, Singapore328 contributionsLots of shops line this pedestrian only street which culminates at Lake Kinrin. Look out for a really delightful shop selling handicrafts that are truly unique. Along the way many snack shops tempt you with delicious snacks. If you stay at Yufuin this is a must visit place.Written 20 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LimCCTSingapore, Singapore138 contributionsoff the beaten track (check Google map or local brochures), beautiful gorge with falls (the spray makes tripod photography a bit more difficult), with signage leading to another part of the same stream a short drive away with a small pedestrian bridgeWritten 15 December 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The gallery has collected Kusama's famous pumpkin-themed works from 1989 to 2003. The unique dot design in Kusama's works originates from the disturbing visual and auditory hallucinations she experienced in her childhood. Her distinctive worldview has captivated the globe. Appreciating the works in the serene space, one can feel the charm of the art. (Note: Kusama's works cannot be photographed.)
Next, head to the exhibition of Tatsuo Miyajima's digital light and shadow work "Time Waterfall". Each number appears in different sizes, cascading down like a waterfall, symbolizing the fleeting of time. The varying speeds of the numbers create a complex visual effect. The work implies that life is like water, diverse and occasionally intersecting.
In the "Seascape" series by Hiroshi Sugimoto, one can appreciate the works through the specially made "Optical Glass Five-Story Pagoda". These black and white photographs present common landscapes, which are also Sugimoto's earliest memories from childhood. He attempts to capture the scenery in his mind within the "Optical Glass Five-Story Pagoda", exploring whether we can see the same sights as the ancients.
The final stop is the exhibition area of Takashi Murakami, one of whose representative works is the "Flower" themed series. He has blended Japanese painting "Sho-getsu-ka" ("Snow, Moon, and Flowers") and "Kachō-fūgetsu" (flower and bird), as well as manga, animation, and video game cultures, to create "strange, smiling little flowers with flowers as the main element". The works feature both smiling little flowers and flowers without smiles, presenting a coexistence of positivity and a sense of inexplicable emptiness.
After visiting the indoor exhibition area, be sure to go up to the second-floor platform to appreciate the other large-scale works and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Yufuin mountains, including Yoshitomo Nara's "Your Dog" and Kohei Nawa's "Ether (lava)", as well as Saori Miyake's "Eternal".

In fact, The whole neighbourhood is like an artistic community, with different types of art museums, galleries, cafes, shops, restaurants, etc. You can spend your whole afternoon here just walking and browsing the entire community. The gallery itself is spacious and well designed. Parking available.Written 14 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
