If you are visiting the Doylestown, New Hope, Lambertville, and Frenchtown, area, put this on your list of things to do and plan on spending at least a few hours. Over the years, my wife and I have been here at least six or seven times and most recently with some friends on New Year's Eve day since we were spending the night in Doylestown, only 15 minutes away. The Village was beautifully decorated.

The Village has clothing stores, a kitchen store, gift shops, home decor stores, a dog shop, a wine tasting, and the knockers and knobs store which has been there forever. You'll have to visit to know what I am talking about. That is just some of them. Of course, the bakeries, ice cream shops, candy stores, and restaurants exist as well. Our My wife and I always spend lots of money at the Kitchen store.

There is plenty of parking, options for restrooms, and the Village is handicap accessible. This is not an Outlet center. Prices are very reasonable and the staff within the stores are always friendly. Like I said, put this on your "to do" list and get your credit card out of the cobwebs.

Fonthill Castle is like no other castle I've seen. You will not see a lot of draperies, faded wallpaper, or over-stuffed furniture. Instead, you will see Gothic architecture, narrow, winding stairways, and a maze of passages. It will not surprise you to know the owner, Henry Mercer, was a fan of Edgar Allen Poe. Henry Mercer was an archaeologist, antiquities collector, ceramicist, and a visionary designer. He filled his home with prints, ceramic tiles, and artifacts--a showplace for his many interests.
Your ticket includes an informative, 1 hr guided tour, and is well worth it. (The only caveat--if you are claustrophobic or have mobility issues, please let your guide know.)

    One doesn't encounter ringing rocks
Very often in life, so a trip here is really something special. Lots of rocks to ring, and lots of trails to explore. Parking lot is close. Bring a bottle of water with you. A unique experience for the whole family!

The Michener Art Museum has an extensive permanent collection and rotating exhibits housed within an architectural gem of a building (a nineteenth-century prison). The George R. Anthonisen sculpture exhibit “Meditations on the Human Condition” (through October 13, 2024) was particularly impressive and educational, and Joseph Meierhans’ “The Jazz Trio” was one of the many highlights of the permanent collection. Special thanks to the staff member who helped me bring Ziui Chen’s “Up, Up, and Away” to life!

My wife and I decided to stop at Washington Crossing Historic Park while on our way to Philadelphia, and we’re so glad we did! After crossing the Washington Crossing Bridge, we couldn't resist checking out this iconic site. The museum offers insightful exhibits that dive deep into George Washington’s famous 1776 Delaware River crossing on Christmas Day. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the grounds weren’t busy, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It was the perfect 1-hour detour—definitely worth the stop!

Helpful Tips: If you're passing through, allow at least an hour to enjoy the exhibits. Great stop for history buffs and easy parking available!

Amazing drive through lights set up. It was beautifully designed with themes of disney, 7 wonders, sports, Candyland and many more. Tickets were $50 per car online. Food and other shops available at the end of the show. It has facility of campfire as well. Worth visiting during Christmas time. Loved the light show and most recommended. Just roads need little maintenance rest all good.

This is the Walking/Driving Bridge between Lambertville NJ and New Hope PA. This is the best way to walk between New Jersey to Pennsylvania. Walking between the two towns allows you to explore both sides. Both have restaurants, shops, etc... We took the canal tow path bike path and parked and walked around. The views from the bridge are nice in the fall with the foliage.

My wife and I recently visited Pennsylvania to Peddlers Village. On the way we visited Bowman’s Hill Tower. What a view! It was a beautiful day and you could see clearly for miles in every direction from the tower. A very worthwhile experience.

The last two weeks of June are the best time to view the lavender, and we were not disappointed. The lavender field, though not too big, is truly beautiful and tranquil.

We didn't pick the lavender, but we did make $40.00 worth of purchases in the small but enjoyable shop. Just be careful when you approach the farm from the road; the small entry sign is easily missed, and it leads to a one-lane dirt road. Across the street is a lake where you can have a takeout lunch.

Andalusia Historic House, Gardens and Arboretum is a 225-year-old mansion surrounded by 50 aces of woodlands and gardens overlooking the Delaware river just north of Philadelphia in Bensalem. This was the ancestral home and country estate of the Biddle family.
The mansion or the Big House is example of Greek Revival architecture in the United States and is a National Historical Landmark. Visitors to this site are given a firsthand view of life from 1790s to 1970s and the traditions and lifestyle of the Biddle family members. The properties garden was named a Partner Garden of the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society making it the only Partner Garden in the United States. It is beautiful and offers impressive views of the Delaware River from the front of the house and walking paths along its banks with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view.
The Biddle’s were an influential family in the early politics of the American Colonies (with one serving as a member of the First Continental Congress and another a close advisor to George Washington). They served as veterans in US Wars from the Revolutionary War to World War II (as a Cornel in the Continental Navy and another as a pilot in the World War). They served in key positions in banking and law (with one serving as US ambassador to France who managed the financial details of Louisiana Purchase; as well as first President of the 2nd Bank of the United States and the US central banking system.)
Andalusia is open to the public for a fee. Guests can do self-guided tours of the gardens and arboretum from 10 AM to 3PM weekdays and to 5PM on Saturdays. The Big House offers 1-hour guided tours starting at 10AM and 1PM mid-week, plus additional tours at 11:30AM and 2:30PM on Saturdays. You can schedule your tour online at the Andalusia web site for just the garden or the garden and the Big House. If you book an afternoon mansion tour, I recommend you arrive at Andalusia early at 10 AM to have time to watch a 45 min introduction film and leisurely tour the garden until it is time for your scheduled mansion tour. During a phone call to the house, I was told they encourage guests to bring a picnic lunch and eat on the property. Andalusia has many places to sit and rest on the property, especially by the river, in the garden and on the front of the house under the large columns. We brought bagels from our hotel breakfast to snack on for lunch.
My wife and I ordered tickets for a combined garden and mansion tour on a Friday with a1PM mansion tour. We arrived at about 10:30AM and parked in their parking lot which is in an open field to the back of the house - just follow the signs near the house. Our first stop on the property was the rear of the Big House to check in; get maps of the property for our self-guided garden walking tour and stickers to wear indicating we were legally on the property prior to our garden tour. From there we began our garden tour at the Visitor Center/Movie Room which is a short walk from the rear of the Big House. There are a limited number of prepackaged snacks available for purchase at the Visitor Center. There are also clean bathrooms next to the Visitor Center/Movie Room.
We watched the entire 45 min movie about the life of the Biddle’s and the history of this home and property. I recommend watching the movie even if you are doing the guided mansion tour. It is very informative about the history of the property and its owners; and it reinforces and provides a visual review of the info given by the mansion tour guide later
The garden tour was great. I was impressed by the Horse Meadow (Number 23 on the map), the Rose Garden (15), the Peony Walk (16), the Fathers Garden (12), the Conifer Border (13), the Long Border (19) and the Easter Garden (20). The view of the front of the Big House with its massive Greek columns from the walking path along the Delaware River was well worth the visit. The view of the Delaware on one side and the front to the Big House on the other side was a great way to conclude our self-guided garden tour before we moved on to the mansion tour. Our tour of the garden took us to 12:30PM. At which point we took a lunch break prior to joining our house tour at 1PM which starts at the rear of the Big House.
We were equally impressed by our tour of the Big House. Our guide was very informative, though at times it was hard to follow as to which Biddle family member she was referring to as we moved from room to room and whose portrait was displayed in each room. There are many stairs to climb during the 1-hour tour. We were most impressed by the dining room and master bedroom furnishings and the many chandeliers on display throughout the home. She shared many personal stories and conflicts faced by the Biddle’s in the context of what was going on in the county at that time. We learned about the Bank Wars between President Andrew Jackson and Nicholas Biddle, the president of the Second Bank of the United States, over the existence of a centralized banking system. Which lead to the collapse of the US central banking system at that time, and the loss of Nicholas Biddle’s personal wealth and influence.
At a price of $30 per person for touring both house and garden were well worth the visit. (The Garden tours are only $15 per person.) The gardens are well manicured and beautiful. The garden tour map was straightforward to follow. except for the Woodland Walk (number 21 on the tour map). We were not able to follow that path using the tour map and did not see many signs for it. At the end of the mansion tour, we hung out at the front of the mansion on the chairs that overlook the Delaware River. To get one final look at one the most scenic views on the property. We left for home at about 2:30 PM prior to 3PM closing.
To find Andalusia its entrance is a long road highlighted by a White Fence with its name written on it while you drive along State Road. (Beware there are two White Fenced entrances along State Road. The second one does not have the name Andalusia written on it and is a back entrance to the property which is not intended for public entry or exit.)
