Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice indoor pool that is often crowded, but offers a few big slides and a wave pool. Good for kids and couples and people that love pools. Just avoid the old men that stare at bikinis.

I visited this place toward the end of May. The only living thing I saw inside the glass building (the main attraction?) were about three or four kinds of butterflies, tens or hundreds of which are constantly flying right over your head or immediately around you. I got some great photos of them. Perhaps, a larger variety of butterflies can be seen depending on the month or season one visits. That having been said, the building itself houses a vast collection of various dead butterflies. The hills and forest around the glass building have a trail network, which is decent for getting exercise and/or seeing dragonflies (and I guess--although I didn't see them--other critters). Unfortunately, whether or not you only want to take a walk, or also enter the exhibit and glassed building with the butterflies, either or both will cost you 400 yen. If the cost were less for only the walk (say 100 yen), I might come here semi-regularly just for the exercise in nature.

You can learn a lot about how fabrics are made here, especially silk used for Japanese kimono and obi. Many exhibits are interactive and staff can show you how to work the old machines. The building itself is also interesting. It uses a special set of windows to provide natural light necessary for working with differentiated colors. You can also see how traditional indigo dye is used. If you want, you can try dyeing a piece of fabric yourself. In another part of the facilities, textiles are still being produced.

The zoo is quite good for a free, local zoo. There are basic exotic animals and a small aquarium. The zoo is aging, and some playground things may be very rusty, but renovations happen from time to time and the zoo is generally well maintained. The amusement park is expensive for what it is, but the zoo has to be supported somehow. The rides are fast-paced, so not suitable for toddlers, but are not generally aimed at pleasing adults. There are many entertaining 50 yen rides for the very young.

At the first floor, you can buy some silk crafts. Especially necktie, the price is 3K-10 K JPY which looks like 20-30K in the department stores. At the second floor, you will know the history of the silk in Kiryu and you can try to make fabric from silk thread by weaving machine. All in Japanese but I suppose you can enjoy making fabric experience.

I think this is the oldest shrine in Kiryu. It has some great wooden reliefs of the outside walls, lots of things you might want to take pictures of, and lots of problems you can ward off if you pay for certain prayers to be performed by the resident priest. By far the prettiest when the cherry blossoms are blooming.

Kiryu is not exactly a popular tourist destination, so I was surprised to find some really nice paintings in the Okawa museum. They include works from some well known European painters but also a good number of interesting works by Japanese artists. Unless you're an art expert, I would not go out of my way to go there (it takes an hour on a local train to get there from the closest shinkansen stop). But if you are in town, it's well worth a visit.

The museum is easy to see, it's up on a hill overlooking the city. Getting there on foot involves quite a steep climb.
