The Meaford Museum was originally built in 1895 as the Town's Pumping House. Later it was turned into the Public Utilities Offices and finally, in 1961 after a sizable donation of historical memorabilia was received by the town, the building was turned into the Meaford Museum. Since that time several renovations, additions and improvements have been made creating the new Meaford Museum as an interactive and exciting hub of local history. You will frequently find school or senior groups, individuals and families learning about the history of the former Town of Meaford and Townships of Sydenham and St. Vincent. The Meaford Museum is an important stop on the Apple Pie Trail, featuring information about the local apple growing history. Also for 2014, there is an exhibit about local inventor and hero Andrew Gawley, the Man with Iron Hands. Learn more about Meaford's internationally renowned story of Beautiful Joe and the area which inspired John Muir to create the Sierra Club. Meaford has a robust and unique history that transcends its borders and delights all those who visit to learn about it.

Small, but interesting

Worth a look. Not a great deal of history, but what they have is well displayed and the staff is very nice.

This tiny little museum is stuffed with artifacts and history of the area. It was a lovely way to spend a morning learning about the town's history and that of some of its most prominent citizens. The gift shop has lovely local crafts and when was the last time you saw elixirs for sale -- well you can get them... More

The staff and volunteers worked very diligently to show the history of their town and their relationship to the waterfront. Each segment of the tour was packed with "stuff" to outline their heritage. Admission was by donation and I enjoyed it enough to drop a twenty.

This museum has expanded since I last saw it years ago. The displays are clear and well-lit. The best part was the volunteer guide who went through with me. Very well-informed and personable. The setting, in Meaford's pretty harbour, is lovely.

We visit Meaford about twice a year for camping, biking and the net shed. Although the museum is across from the net shed, 2014 was the first time that visited. We were very impressed with the displays both inside and out. Displays wer labelled and did not come with paragraphs and paragraphs of reading. Well laid out and definitely worth... More

We were taking a stroll through the downtown when we found this little gem. Only $2 a person to walk through. Take the time to read all the exhibits. It's well worth it. Fascinating look at the local history.

The history of our town and surrounding area comes to life in this marvelous harbour side treasure. The event I last attended was a cooperative event with the local library explaining how some of our Meaford streets got their names...hint...think Lord Horatio Nelson!!

For a small town this museum is a gem. It has lovely exhibits of municipal history and famous celebrities especially Beautiful Joe. Staff are knowledgeable. A research room is available for geneology searches. The main building and farm shed are accessible. Well worth a visit.
