Satzvey Castle surely belongs to one of the most beautiful (n they claim to be the best maintained) moated castles in in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is stil unknown the exact built year of this place but its surely older than the year of 1396 - their first found written document. Like some castles in Germany, this castle is owned and... More

This castle is still owned by the original family and is a residence. (It felt real and less like a polished museum experience) It was such a pleasure. We had a group of visitors from several countries and we all agreed it was lovely. Rich in history with bucolic views. Glad we went!

This was a great place to visit if you like castles, moats, and Knights. The place was closed when we were there, but we were still able to walk inside the courtyards. The building was magnificent. Just outside the main courtyard, through an old passageway, opened up what looked like various restaurants and stores. None were open unfortunately. One room... More

We had listed Burg Satzvey as one of the places we wanted to visit during our stay in the Eifel in the week just after Easter. Imagine our disappointment, therefore, that when we finally arrived after a one hour car journey we found the place closed. This was a surprise as many of the other castles we visited in the... Had a fantastic time at Burg Satzvey. We attended a medieval festival where everyone dressed in 12th century outfits. There was singing, dancing and a brilliant show. There were stalls with people selling merchandise and food and drinks. Super day out at a low cost. Well recommend a visit, suitable for all ages.

The Satzvey castle is a medieval moated castle from a 12th century. It's considered to be a Wasserburg, castle built on an island surrounded by water. During the centuries, the castle was owned by several aristocratic families and was mostly left intact, until WWII, when it was severely damaged. Rebuilt after the war, today the castle is open to public... More

The castle, and the whole setup were amazing! It felt like a trip to medieval times. The knights show was entertaining both for for adults and kids. You can buy food, drinks, costumes, toys etc at the venue, at reasonable prices. We spent about 5 hours walking around the medieval settlement, including the show that lasted 90 minutes. Loved all... On the pictures it looks really nice, but once you get there it isn't really much. We wanted to visit the castle but since we were the only visitors at the starting time the guided tour didn't go through and without that you are not allowed to ge even in the garden.

I was here during the medival market, and it was amazing! We didn't even get to go into the castle (tours weren't running, due to the thriving market), but will go back and do that. The castle was amazing, and it IS as good as the pictures make it look. And if you get a chance, visit during a market!
