Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited the windmill & was greeted by Nigel Moon (the owner) who was only too pleased to show us round this fascinating mill. Incredible to see all the workings inside. Thanks for showing us around Nigel, we really enjoyed our visit.

Love this windmill and the fact that Nigel was around (on a Sunday when it is supposed to be closed) to bring it more to life made it an interesting experience. Very grateful for his time. He's very knowledgeable not just about the windmill but also on agriculture and husbandry past and present. It was great to be able to climb to the top but I would recommend avoid wearing black due to the flour dust everywhere! (Seriously, not an issue for me) Fun to do. Felt a part of history.

We had spotted the windmill on a tourist map and drove up to have a look, expecting no more than to see the exterior. Soon after we arrived Nigel Moon appeared and offered us a internal tour. We spend the best part of an hour with Nigel whilst he talked about mills, wheat, nutrition and other matters. He was very engaging and is doing an amazing job getting the Whissendine windmill back into wind-powered operation. We felt a bit guilty keeping him away from his work but he was apparently a bit groggy following some dental work and we happy to take a break. However, if you are thinking of visiting a call to establish a convenient time would probably be appreciated.

staying in the area overnight and decided to walk around the village and take a look at the windmill . We met a local man walking towards the windmill who asked if we wanted to look around . He told us about the owner and went to fetch him . We said there was no need to disrupt him but he insisted . The owner , Nigel , could not have been more welcoming . With over 20 years working the mill he was fascinating to talk to . Well worth a visit.

A joy to behold. A great Miller, a great building and great flour. Nigel is very welcoming and a terrific character. He will let you buy a variety of flours and bag them there and then for you. Not to be missed.

Wow what an amazing find

Just cycling around the area and bumped into this place.

Nigel the owner was very welcoming and let us have a wonder up the mill on our own. Its amazing with lots of history and fascinating stories.

This is a must if you are in the area and a nice donation or why not buy a packet of his flour to support him.

Step back in time for a rare opportunity to visit a working windmill, meet the extraordinary miller and purchase some real organic flour. Very memorable.

Fascinating working windmill. Lucky to see the sails rotating. Take care climbing up the wooden stairs.

Such an interesting opportunity to step back in time and see how things use to be done. Nigel the owner/custodian is such a knowledgeable and friendly person, a real character. You can visit every floor of the windmill but take care as the steps are very old and steep, and as you would expect the atmosphere is very dusty. "Think the health & safety police" would have a field day here 😂. Well worth a visit if you don't mind getting flour on your clothes. No admission fee charged but a donation is welcomed.
