A unique personal collection of over 400 Classic British cars, commercials and motoring memorabilia. Please note there may be some dust and oil among the cars as the owner is not as young as he was and cannot get around them as often as he would like. Volunteer cleaners very welcome!

Car heaven, Ian Hope is a true British car enthusiast. Cars stacked 2 high, a unique museum to visit. Many years of restoration for the future car nuts, to bring these gems back to life. A very different and utterly awesome place to visit. Good...More

If in the Bay, a must go to, even if you’re not a car enthusiast. Collection owner Ian Hope has the most amazing collection of cars (over 400) in this warehouse many stacked 2 high. Was able to find my first car (Standard 10) and...More

Strangest car museum ever; ones man's lifetime obsession with British cars has led to an old warehouse packed and stacked 2 high with over 450 cars & commercials! Has to be seen to be believed, a few rarities but majority unrestored saloon cars. Obviously only...More

We visited as part of our Napier Classic Cars visit, the owner, Ian Hope, is a joy to listen to, his knowledge of his 454 cars is truly unbelievable. He invited us upstairs to play his Pianola's, brilliant, we also had the opportunity to sit...More

Ian Hope's British Car Museum is tucked neatly into a huge shed/barn in Te Awanga, a sleepy hollow near Napier. It is his lifetime's collection of British vehicles and no car enthusiast should miss it when visiting the area. It is wheelchair friendly so can...More

The British Car Museum is only open at weekends and is not easily found. This is NOT a professional museum, simply one man's 'backyard' collection, where nothing has been restored, just taken off the road and ramped up. Inside the smell of dust is over-powering...More

This review is factually inaccurate - the collection is open for viewing 7 days a week but Ian advises visitors to call before travelling on weekdays as he operates the museum single-handed and occasionally needs to close briefly. As for "no effort at restoration" -...More

Having a big interest in British Classic cars we wondered why we had not heard about this museum before as the advertising blub said 450 cars on show. Well we wouldn't disagree about the number of cars on view but most of them were just...More

It's all about perception; what you see as 'wrecks', Ian sees as precious examples of our motoring heritage that he has saved from obliteration by storing indoors pending their eventual restoration - yes, all the cars in Ian's collection are restorable. It may not happen...More

This is not what we expected. From the outside it looks like any other Kiwi tin shed, albeit a large kiwi fruit pack house. From the outside is a rusting old jag and a few road signage, possibly not that interesting. The entrance is simple,...More

A very large assortment of British cars, jam packed into rather stifling sheds, a fabulous collection for those who wish to go down memory lane. The whole place smells like the interior of an old car. Quite a few rare gems hiding there too. Jensen...More
