An unsurpassed winery and food experience in the Bay.
Alfresco dining at its best. Great location by the coast. Attentive service, great food, fabulous wines. A must goto experience in the Hawkes Bay. Go for a long lazy lunch you will not be disappointed. Some of the best wines NZ has to offer. The Reserve Chardonnay is highly recommended, as is the Old Olive Block Bordeaux red.

    Must-do in the Hawks Bay
Cannot speak highly enough of this spot; the best experience in the Hawks Bay (yet). Wine was really yummy; felt compelled to take a few bottles away given the reasonable price point. Awesome customer service. Great setting.

    Stunning Mothers Day lunch
A party of 5 of us went to Clearview yesterday, Sunday 12th, Mothers Day, for lunch. I cannot recommend this enough, the food was amazing, top quality, large portions, extremely delicious. The service was impeccable and a great atmosphere. They were very busy but we did not have to wait long because the service was very quick. Very much looking forward to going back.

    Fantastic lunch to celebrate 90th
Our small party booked to celebrate my mother in law’s 90th birthday. We were greeted with bubbly on the house, and farewelled after a marvellous lunch by one of the servers telling our beloved mother she didn’t look any older than 70. Quite true. And such a splendid touch Food was as ever created and presented beautifully. Pumpkin hummus profiteroles- who would have thought they could be so good Steak sublime. Venue as comfortable and relaxed as ever

Visited Waitangi Weekend as part of a wine tasting tour for a friends birthday. Venue was beautiful and clearly popular as it was very busy but staff member Lee left us all feeling a bit stink. We had hoped he was just having an off day but from reviews below and on google it seems we are not the first to experience Lee's rudeness and arrogance.

When greeted at the door Lee was clearly flustered and complained about us being late (we didn't know this at the time but he had actually asked our guide to bring us in early if possible and we had arrived "on time" ) and the fact the group before us were yet to arrive and 45 minutes late (whom as it turns out were seated behind us shortly thereafter).

When seated he asked about our day and we mentioned this winery was the last on the tour of four. He then stated not to tell him that as he then couldn't serve us as duty manager. Two members of our group then informed him that they are also duty managers with liquor licences and work in bars/the sale of alcohol at which point he changed his tune.

When asked if he could cater the tasting to whites rather than reds he acted like it was the biggest inconvenience. He snubbed and was quite rude and offensive to several members of the group who decided to leave. Our tour guide picked up on this so we said we would all like to leave early as we had already tasted 5 wines and we felt we had had enough and could the guide please inform Lee.

Lee came out to provide another wine and our birthday girl politely explained our group had had enough, thanked him for his service and informed him we were leaving not wanting to cause a scene. He insisted he had two more wines for us to try (funny behaviour for a man who had claimed we were too inebriated to be served when we first arrived!) and again we stated we had had enough and were leaving to which he rolled his eyes and shouted "whatever" as we left. Really put a damper on an otherwise amazing day.

We were served by Jinny, who was very friendly and helpful. My wife and I enjoyed a flight of 6 wines to taste. We also enjoyed our complimentary breads and ordered a Whenua Platter. The platter was stunning with cheeses, cold meats, breads, fruit, olives, almonds etc. All was well until we went to pay our bill and buy a wine. Jinny had told us we would have the cost of our flight offset from the cost of our bottle or at least a 10% discount. But the cashier told us that because we had bought food with our flight, we were not entitled to a discount. This was not only disappointing t also odd. We did not think it was in keeping with being a responsible host. We put the wine back on the shelf.

Book in advance during the holiday season as Clearview is very popular. We dined here on the 4th January. The food was absolutely delicious and well presented. Prior to lunch we sampled some of the wine selection and ended up leaving with a few bottles. We ate outside and the kids loved the play area as well as the Pétanque terrain. Price wise it was expensive but we considered it to be good value for money given the quality of the food and the amount of time we spent there.

We were greeted by Ginny who ended up being our amazing host for the time we spent at Clearview. Our plan for the day started with wanting to visit 5 wineries but that very quickly changed after meeting Ginny!

We instantly felt relaxed, at home and adventurous in our attitude towards the tasting

What started as a quick stop ended up being a couple of incredible hours tasting wines that were world class (and we have tasted wines all over the world)

What did it for us was the complete lack of pretentiousness that you find at so many other well known vineyards coupled with a deep knowledge and understanding of the wines, the process and in the end, our tastes.

The whistle stop tasting turned into a marathon and we gladly parted with our $ to buy a few cases before heading off to two more vineyards to end the day.

The best experience out of all of them by far and we can not recommend it enough

Friendly staff took us through a wine tasting - over five Chardonnays and plenty of other wines that were all great. There was a large group of 40+ people onsite, but we still felt well looked after by staff. All meals were tasty, recommend slow cooked beef pappardelle, the platter and croquettes.

Clearview is an unassuming venue that feels very relaxed without losing any of the quality you can expect from a high end wine estate.

The duck was really tender and flavoursome and the fish of the day was also amazing. The steak was good, the sauce really elevated that dish. Both desserts were fantastic - the Panna Cotta is one of the best I've ever had.

The only issue I had is that the toilets were well below the standard of the rest of the estate, it smelt like a public toilet and did not feel hygienic.

We went to Clearview for lunch and even though I have several intolerances (garlic, peas, white onion, stone fruit etc) they were able to help by making adjustments that still ensured that the meals were super tasty. We had entrees, mains, desserts, wine with our food and a wine tasting at the cellar door. All of the food was great and the waiter was polite and didn’t make me feel like like a nuisance with my intolerances as some restaurants do.
For the wine tasting at the cellar door, the lady who served us had great knowledge and experience. She went at everyone’s individual pace not rushing us and she also had a knack for remembering what we’d tried which was brilliant. She’s certainly an asset!
I’ll definitely return, what a great way to spend a lunch/afternoon!

We called in today for a wine tasting. The Cellar door was busyish but not packed. We told front of house we were there for a tasting and were told it wouldn’t be a problem. We probably waited nearly 10 minutes before being noticed and were then treated to the most arrogant man I have come across in a long time. No info about the wine, was rude to every customer in there and quite frankly left us highly unimpressed. The only saving grace was the wine was delicious and we all purchased but it was by no means due to him or his people skills!

Whenever we visit the Hawke’s Bay we make sure to leave time for a meal at Clearview. It never fails to please. The menu isn’t huge, with only 3 or 4 choices for lunch, but the food is very well thought out and perfectly balanced. I had the pork belly, and the fatty, unctuous meat was beautifully matched with sweet, sour pickled veggies. Even a slightly fussy 13 year old was well catered for. As for every other year, the 2020 vintner’s reserve Chardonnay was well received.

My wife and I had a really good time at the Clearview Estate Winery. We started with a tasting, which if you have lunch or make a purchase the fee ($10pp) is waved. Philip did a great job. He was knowledgeable, informative, and fun. The wines were very nice; we even bought one of them.

Lunch was also very good. My wife got the fish of the day and I got the pasta of the day. Both dishes were very fine. The portions were good and the cost was reasonable. Nice covered outdoor seating.

A well spent couple of hours.
