Stumbled across this house whilst ambling around the centre. Easy to imagine the life of the house in days gone by, helped by the selection of old photos. Rooms are laid out well and to come across an old radio was a nice touch! If...More

This place was home to the ruling, aristocratic family of Phrae. It is a monumental mansion which can be looked inside for free. It will give you a sense of how the Thai ruling classes lived around the turn of the 20th century. The original...More

This was an old teakwood mansion built during King Rama V for the Governor of Phrae province. It is beautiful, sacred and full of history. During their majesties King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit's visit to Phrae, this mansion was where they stayed.

This is a very interesting place to visit, if your interested in history it was the highlight of my short trip, see how the people lived in a very nice house with the jail in the basement, also it is free to visit.

A very nice house showing what it must have been like to live for the wealthy during the period. The jail below the house is also a reminder to how it must have been for the poor, prisoners or slaves. Find the holes cut in...More

Another of Phrae's impressive old houses. This once housed a Prince and is now and interesting museum with a lot of the original furniture and clothes from the family. It was really hot when we were there and there didn't seem to be any fans...More

This slightly austere house is worth visiting if you’re in the area. Personal items that belonged to the Prince and Princess of Phrae are on display, along with many photographs of a bygone era. I couldn’t help wondering how it must have been to live...More
