Thanks to the person that posted about seeing Platypus under the bridge at Latrobe. Got out of the car tonight and saw 3. Awesome! Went to a few other places as per trip advisor but too hard so went to the bridge. Arrived 8.45pm so they blended with the water. Get their earlier. We mucked around going to other places... More

Due to recent floods and closure of the local reserve we found out that this is no longer operating. You can find platypus in Latrobe though on your own!! We spoke to some local kids and they told us where to look - currently there are at least 3 platypus hanging around between the bridge and the Rapids. Park at... More

We met our volunteer guide Phil at 6.30 p.m. and paid $10 each which goes back into the Latrobe Landcare Group to assist with costs incurred in land projects. We followed Phil out to a Mersey River spot just before Warrawee Forest Reserve and he started pointing out platypus to us. Phil taught us much about the habits of platypus... More

Its not as its promoted, just go to the river and you can spot them on your own.The park and surrounding areas are very nice so take a picnic lunch and look for platypus.

Apart from the word "platypus" on the axemen hall of fame sign, and the giant platypus out the back, we found next to nothing about a platypus and had effectively no experience. If they at least advertised tours, it might help.

Your hosts, Peter and Wendy, will ensure your visit to the Platypus Experience and the Axeman's Hall of Fame is one to remember whilst in Tassie. Marvel at the amazing platypus, abundant in the nearby Mersey River plus the view the displays that depict the sporting history of Tasmanian axemen over the years. The building itself is well worth visiting.

At first I was a little disappointed, as I thought it would be some sort of aquarium where you could view the platypus' up close. when we arrived, we found out it was an actual tour. We were only in town for the 1 night and were able to book onto the evening tour at short notice. It was a... More

We did the morning tour in Latrobe and it was absolutely amazing. As soon as we walked out of the car, the guide pointed at a couple of platypuses near us. Amazing! If you want to see a platypus, definitely take this tour. The 10$ per person is more than worth it, and goes to the maintenance of the area.... More

We booked a 7am tour for the Platypus Experience, through the visitor centre at the Axeman Hall of Fame. Our guide was Ron, he was brilliant! So passionate and does a great job as a guide and also with the work he does at La Trobe Landcare. We saw heaps of platypuses, some swimming down the river, others foraging for... More
