We visited the abbey in September 2016 on a warm and lovely day. The setting is quiet and peaceful and the abbey very beautiful. It is perhaps not as spectacular as some, but worth a visit. The abbey has largely been rebuilt, but the cloisters are lovely. We were interested to know that many of the sculptures from this abbey... More

It is a very peaceful setting. Lots of effort has been made to restore the intricate carvings and sometimes there is a bit of imagination needed. Having said that, the Abbey is worth a stop and the introductory video is very helpful in understanding the context.

We visited Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa in 2015 along with the other wonderful abbeys in the Pyrennes-Orientales and were quite impressed with the elegant remains of the cloister, the striking Romanesque capitals and dramatic Moorish arches. We took our time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Not to be missed or dismissed.

Perhaps becoause we saw it after St martin en Canigou, we didn't find it that spectacular (starting with its position, on the road. But of course easiar to reach.) Imposing church, big and fresh crypt, nice cloister. Quick enough visit.

Interesting place. Lovely grounds. Peaceful and tranquil. I spent 30 minutes here. It was easy to get to from the main road, but I probably wouldn't make the diversion just for this.

Originally ninth century, and home to the renowned tenth century abbot Oliba, the restoration was well done and left the character and bones in place. Great for children, and only a short drive from main town of Prades.

A unique inside view into the evolution of the romanesque architectural style. From the underground chapel build with large Pilar to support small arches to the refined final version of romanesque arches who survived both the French Revolution and American dismantlement. By meandering through this marvelous Abbey, you can literally walk through history. The labor of love by the handful... More

The abbey is right on the main road, with adequate parking across the street. It has an extensive crypt and attractive cloister. When you visit pay particular attention the the capitals on the cloister pillars. The church itself is an attractive 12th C building. We visited in October, when the church and cloister are closed 12 - 2, so plan... More

This is a beautiful old abbey located in the foothills outside Perpignan. It has a long history and interesting stories about losing and regaining the columns of the courtyard and other features. The location is lovely and the buildings outstanding.

Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa is a nicely restored spot on the outskirts of Prades. There is a very good short film that shows the progress of restoration as well as an interesting computer projection of what the abbey used to look like. Very nice cloisters. Easy to see how this would be a terrific setting for the annual Pablo Casals music festival.
