- Travelling PixieAdelaide, Australia1,002 contributionsGreat funLovely space, not very busy and not too big. Read a few reviews of the other forest and decided to go to this one instead. Great decision! The price was cheaper and we were each given a bottle of water and a bag a peanuts to feed the monkeys. A guide followed us around to help control the monkeys. Spend around an hour here. Great experience.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 January 2024
- Andrew F13 contributionsGood monkey forestWe were taken here as part of a tour. Not many tours take you here as it's out of the way, our tour guide told us this is better than ubud monkey forest as it's cheaper and less aggressive monkeys for my kids to enjoy. We were greeted by a guide. You need to pay a small fee to get the guide and peanuts to feed the monkeys. At no point did we feel unsafe. You could hand feed the monkeys while they climbed on you. My kids and wife had a ball. Such a nice forest with huge trees and home to over 600 monkeys. I would recommend this forest to my friendsVisited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 January 2024
- Kevin SSouthampton, United Kingdom484 contributionsExcellent ExperienceThe options are there to visit a couple of monkey forests in Bali but this one offers a really good interactive fun experience. You will be encouraged to invite the monkeys on to you and feed them the peanuts provided. A guide (or two) will be with you all the way to help with any issues if the monkeys get to boisterous. One of the guides will take photos that you can choose from at the end of the walk. Allow about an hour.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 January 2024
- Julia Y94 contributionsSo much fun! These gray long tailed macaques are so entertaining! We didn’t see any at first, then there were so many! Be aware—they will take your glasses and phones! They will jump on you from behind! They will chase intruding monkeys back to where they belong. The grounds are lovely with an ancient Temple. The staff is great at guiding you and chasing the monkeys away when appropriate. Lots of mommies and babies. This activity only takes about an hour. Highly recommend!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2024
- Leslie H18 contributionsWonderful place!!I stopped at Sengheh Monkey Forest on my to Lovina from Ubud, as I was told it was less touristy and quieter (and safer) than the Ubud Monkey Forest, and I was glad I did. I was the first and only person there, and whole families of monkeys came running when the guide called them. They knew that peanuts were here! All of the monkeys were friendly and climbed all over me. So many babies around, some just a few days old, clinging to Mom. I did not find them aggressive, but I also wasn't wearing sunglasses. My guide, who is a volunteer working for donations, took a dozen photos of me on my phone. He seemed to know all of the monkeys and they knew what he was saying to them.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 21 May 2024
- ZoiDubai, United Arab Emirates30 contributionsNice walk but shortBeautiful nature and monkeys around. They feed them so that's why they come over. You can't touch them or look at them at their eyes when close. They can get aggressive. If they come to you when you feed them it's OK but do not touch them. It's a short walk only and not very crowded. We were told there will be a security guard escorted us but I my opinion it's not necessary because if you follow precautions you can walk around by yourself, like in other monkey forests. The guard takes pictures of you and can print them if you wanna buy them.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 June 2024
- Ole Blue EyesTustin, California186 contributionsAwesomeOur group of nine people thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We had five kids with us and they loved it. The entrance fee is low and you receive a bag of peanuts to feed the monkeys. Secure your hats, sunglasses, and other loose items as the monkeys will climb on you and take them. Great time spent hereVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 July 2024

- ImeldaParis, France20 contributionsA Wonderful Monkey ExperienceA quieter and calmer experience with the monkeys here than Uluwatu and Ubud. It maybe smaller than Ubud but you still get as much monkey encounters as with Ubud. Additionally as part of the entrance ticket they give you water and peanuts to feed the monkeys so you can hand them the peanuts to feed them and not have to pay extra for food to feed them. There are also pawangs (guides that can help to keep the monkeys ar bay if there are any that are too cheeky) that can walk around with you. Just note that if you do go with a pawang they will want you to take photos of you with the monkeys and will print out the photos and each photos cost 50,000 IDRupiah so be firm accept a photo or two since that is kinda like their fee to taking you around. However if you don’t want a pawang you can go around by yourself no problem.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 August 2024
- Stefan H6 contributionsThe best choice for seeing monkeys in BaliOf all the Monkey forests in Bali this is by far the most beautiful and interesting one. The place is calm and located in a unique forest. The monkeys here are way calmer and less intimidating than the ones in Ubud! The biggest difference to Ubud Monkey Forest is, that here you get a guide that accompanies you through the forest. Included in the entry price of 75 K there’s a bag filled with peanuts, a bottle of water and a guide. We were lucky enough to meet Maryo there, who not only is professional in interacting with the monkeys but also gives you great explanations on the statues (mostly figures from the Ramayana) and temples on the site. If you need a knowledgeable local to guide you around (and maybe other places too), feel free, to contact him on WhatsApp 087783293693). Highly recommend!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 August 2024

Forget about visiting the Ubud Monkey Forest. This is the place to go for the full 🐒 experience. We arrived and were greeted by a guide who showed us around this great location. The monkeys here are very tame and being with guide made it perfect. They gave us peanuts to feed monkeys and made sure we were safe at all times. The guides will take pictures of you with monkeys then at end of tour will ask you if you want a couple of pictures printed. Not a problem. 60k entry person and we gave guide 100k for 2 printed pictures and a great tour of location. For under 20AUD we had a great experience.

Pleasant walk in the forest, between temples and macaques, not aggressive unlike their counterparts in other Balinese parks (Ubud, Uluwathu...). Very quickly, a photographer follows suit, and invites you to pose with the macaques, which he will have attracted with a few peanuts. He then offers you his photos for sale (50,000 rupees, or €3 for both). And they are of good quality.

A nice alternative to the busy Monkey Forest of Ubud. It's a lot quieter here. You can buy the entrance ticket on site and it costs 30k per person. Someone also walked with us to chase away the monkeys, but it is best to shake them off as quickly as possible because we read that they would charge a lot of money. Unless you want photos with monkeys on your shoulder, of course. They can do that like no other. Tip: Find a branch and use it as a stick to scare the monkeys away if necessary. Some are very aggressive and attacking (they come at you for no reason). We used our stick to keep a safe distance between us and the few aggressive monkeys. Furthermore, a beautiful park where you can take a walk and admire the temples, in the coolness between the trees.

The "guides" will attach themself to you and you think it's for protection, but it's the exact opposite. They give the monkeys peanuts and encourage them to jump on you so they can try to sell you a terrible Polaroid of a monkey climbing on you. I got scratched and had my hair pulled really badly. Go to Ubud Monkey Forest instead. It's safe and the guides actually protect you and don't encourage you to feed the monkeys. Plus you can walk around that forest for an hour and read about the monkeys and forest. I'm not sure why they think we want wild animals to climb on us and risk rabies and bites, but it's not a good place to go.

Good experience. We visited Sanger Monkey forest at the end of the day. It was a nice way to finish the day. We’ve never been to the monkey forest in Ubud due to hearing how the monkeys can be aggressive at times. We’ve been to Uluwatu temple in the past and seen monkeys steal sunglasses from tourists in order to get some food. The monkeys in Sengeh monkey forest were not aggressive at all. You can purchase peanuts at the entrance. If you had nuts in your hand they would come to you and take them out of your hand, gently. The little ones would speed up and grab and run away so they could get to you faster than the larger monkeys. We saw so many cute little baby monkeys. The surrounding scenery was really nice. It was a nice way to end our day.

I love it although was quite small in size but the atmosphere is very relaxing and majestic. Filled with many pala trees which are tall and gigantic, the monkeys are living there in three groups. One or two giant ones are quite eager to hop on my husband’s back but our guide helps us to distract the monkeys. Overall is very nice and memorable experience for my son.

Hello! I was at the Sangeh monkey forest today. Some monkey jumped on me and played. After it i realized they scratched me a bit. Are they vaccinated? Or should i get rabies vaccination for myself?

Hi, Do we need to buy our tickets prior to our arrival?
How much time do we need to do this?
Do we need to wear a sarong or coverup because there are temples inside?
Thanks
Written 20 May 2023
You can buy tickets there. You pay when entering car park. No sarong. We had our driver take us there. You will be approached by guides who will ask if you want a tour. They are ok so go with them. They can get monkeys to sit on you and get pucs. They will guide you. We got some great pics and felt comfortable. Guides will take pics and ask if you want some printed. Pick a few and give guide a tip. We gave 100k tip and got 2 printed photos. Plus entry fee which is about the same. Worth the effort and better than ubud monkey forest.

Hi, THS001
I can understand. Sometimes visitors do not see the names of the attractions they visit. There is also a driver or guide who gives wrong information about the name of the visited tourist attraction. So when giving a review of the places visited, so wrong address.
Please visit Sangeh Monkey Forest on your upcoming holiday. thanks.

Whats the difference between Sangeh Monkey Forest than the one in UBud is there many stairs as i use a walking stick and are the monkeys not as argessive
Written 10 July 2017
The tree in Sangeh is a homogeneous forest. The nutmeg tree.
Cheaper entrance fee.
Not many stairs
Not many tourists
Tame monkeys
There are guides outside and inside the forest, so it's safer
There is a photographer who helps you if you want to take pictures with monkeys (not mandatory)
