Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a nice small plaza at the center of Vicuña village. There is some tourist shopping, a nice little grocery store and the BauerTower (old city hall). In the center of the plaza is a stone bust of Gabriel Mistral looking up from a fountain. There alre also some interesting, carvings and other features.

We visited this park as a part of a cruise ship tour. It's a very pretty municipal park/square that's nicely lanscaped and maintained. Our guide provided some commentary on the history of the things we saw. This was a nice stop.

When we first got into Vicuna, we were sad that the museum of Gabriela Mistral was closed on Mondays, but then we walked down to the cute Plaza de Armas. There were many vendors with a variety of cute items including things made with various stones and glass and woven bracelets. My favorite area was across the street in a shopping area behind the ice cream store on Chacabuco near Arturo Prat (see pic, not the cannibis place).

The 3rd booth or so on the right had a man selling glass pendants with colorful pieces inside (see pic below). They came with a woven chain and pretty bag for only 4,000 pesos (about $6) each. I wish I'd bought more than the 5 I did. 2 more booths up on the right is a man with great prices on carved stone. We is also very knowledgeable and wants to make sure you know what you are buying. He also showed me how to tell counterfeit bills from real ones.

At the very back my aunt bought a nice small hand painted plate. They also have bathrooms near the entrance on the left side for 300 pesos.

On the corner of the square on Arturo Prat near Chacabuco there is a guy on the sidewalk with many small polished stones. I bought a small lapis lazuli moai from him for 8,000 pesos. He had other stones including rhodochrosite from Argentina.

Around the square there were other cute booths including the one with stones of the area on a plaque which I included a picture of, but I was worried I had too many other heavy things to bring home.

Also there is a large supermarket on the other corner of Chacabuco.

Well that's it, a nice but not outstanding place, where all the life of Vicuna concentrates at the end of the day to share dance, music, or just a peace of empanadas.
You can't miss it when you're there.

Charming plaza with shops and restaurants on the plaza or nearby. The entire town is lively but still quiet.

A lovely smaller plaza, beautifully set out and one of the few you see with a large stage where from softer music, somewhat folk is played during the day. It was great to see that when one of the larger trees had reached it time, they created lovely carved worked of art therefrom. The Plaza is rimmed with restaurants, municipal and tourists office, banks, churches, and yes Unimarc supermercado. For all of this the key feature has to,be the stone bust of Gabriel Mistral looking up from somewhat of a fountain space which this year showed improvement via flower pots. A definite place to visit when in this lovely town of The Elqui Valley.

Beautiful plants trees and flowers. Right across the street is the church and Bauer Tower. See the real Vicuña and wish you could live in Vicuña. Enjoy!

Plaza de Armas is a charming and peaceful town square filled with pieces of art, some even sculpted from trees. The park has a lot of shade, and benches to watch families enjoy the afternoon. Nearby there are also several vendors of original art and craftwork. If you want an original souvenir from Chile, this is the place to find it.

Plaza de Armas is also known as the Main square. Tranquil and surrounded by trees and benches for people to sit on. It featured monuments like a “dancing waters” feature, an acoustic stage-shell, a domed museum and a monument to 2 famous Chilean poets who were both Nobel Literature prize winners.

One of the places that I liked most of the region of Coquimbo, due to its tranquility and that this well maintained, also it is appreciated that the places are for the whole family, and to spend a pleasant time, I would have liked to visit the house of Gabriela Mistral , but on the date I went it was not available, but we were able to see the surroundings of this beautiful city.
