Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you have a sweet tooth (and 0 wobbly or problem teeth) and love toffees then this is the spot for you!!!. From Licorice to Chilli to Mint to Coffee flavoured toffees, theres a toffee for you. You can watch the very talented staff, skillfully and with speed wrap each individual toffee while browsing and tasting. There are tasters so that you can make the best choice, lovely gift boxes for sale too. Worth a visit!

Despite a wet and cold day on the West Coast, we still decided to see if we could see any flowers, it being the height of the flower season. Having been accompanied by a group of friends and especially visitors from the USA, I thought that a visit to The Darling Toffee shop would bring some sweet consolation, to a rather disappointing day. During previous visits we were always, greeted by friendly staf, in line with the peoples of the West Coast.
However Saturday, was the total opposite. I so hoped that our guests would have been treaded by an explanation of how you produce your delicious toffees, but instead we were met by an elderly lady by the name of Anet, I later found out.
On your website you mention that you patrons are allowed to sample your toffees for free. Should our group have sampled 1 of each of your toffees it would have equated to +/- 88 toffees. Non the less, after already having bought 3 boxes of toffees, I wanted to get 8 pieces of the Moca Java samples for our guests to possibly convincing them to buy this for gifts for their families abroad, because I found this specific toffee absolutely delicious. However the next moment Anet shouted at me to put back the toffees and with a pointed finger said that she can not allow that everyone that come into the shop take hands full of toffees, which I totally understand and agree with. But this was not my intent. I explained this to her but she was adamant that each of our guests should have lined up and asked for individual samples.
I suggest that you either put up a sign, explaining the process or like they do at wine farms, get people to pay for a tasting experience. You have such a great product and such a welcoming shop that employees do your business a disadvantage.
Anet is obviously long past her retirement age and not qualified to deal with customers.
I have never felt so embarrassed to expect to my guests what this lady was saying to me in Afrikaans. Fortunately I could down tune the situation by jokingly saying that I was caught with my hand in the "Toffee" Jar.
But you don't have to worry, I will not be caught a second time, because my guests and I will not visits Darling Toffee Shop again, which is actually quite sad because I kind of liked your sweet delights.

Wow, now this sure was a gem of a find and WOW.... Their toffees are absolutely amazing!!! So many different flavors to choose from! I settled with the honey & salt.... Oh my hat!!! It was sooooo good, I finished the whole box in one go!!! Could not stop eating it!! Now I am sad I did not buy other flavors! The ladies are very friendly & greeted me while I watched through the window as they were busy making the toffees. I am really happy that local manufacturing is done with local labour from the town.

I cannot tell you just how sad I am...I live in Canada and I bought several packages of the caramels/toffee and gave some as gifts and mine are all gone now and I should have kept them all for myself. LOL They are absolutely delicious and I can't get anymore as they do not ship outside of South Africa! Next time someone that I know is going (Oct 2020), I will tell them that they have to bring me back some... A LOT of them! :)

Hi! So sorry we don't ship overseas as yet!! Promise we are working on it. Please follow our social media (Facebook or Instagram) - we will announce on there. Maybe one day we could be available in Canada as well - otherwise you must please plan a trip to Africa again :) Kind Regards!

Good place to get unique toffees made on the premises (next door to the shop). You can taste before you buy. Good place to go if you looking for gifts for someone with a sweet tooth. But be prepared to pay.

It was a hot Saturday afternoon. We chanced going passed the Darling Sweet to see what all the fuss was about and we were greeted by Fritz. What a cool guy, full of personality and conversation. He gave us a rundown of how things work at the Darling Sweet, loved that it supports some of the locals. All the toffees are 100% handmade. And they are delicious. We were told we absolutely had to sample each one, which we very willingly did. My favourite was the classic Tannie Evita. Thanks Fritz. We will be recommending all our East London friends pay you a visit when they are down your side of the world. Keep doing what you're doing, you're an awesome host.

The Darling Sweet is such a unique experience! Toffees lovingly crafted, cut and wrapped by hand and such amazing flavours! The owners, Hentie & Fritz really have so much to be proud of in this little gem. Now they need to share these delicious treats with the rest of South Africa
