The Botanical Garden was very welcoming from the start. The information gave a clear idea about the historical importance of the garden (including the first rubber tree). All the trees were labelled clearly. The wide expanse of the garden allowed lots of romantic strolls by local couples - and there was a very high quality cricket game going on in... More

Henarathgoda Botanical Garden is one of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. The other botanical gardens are Peradeniya Botanical Garden, Hakgala Botanical Garden, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden and Seetawaka Botanical Garden. Henarathgoda Botanical Garden is situated in Gampaha-Minuwangoda main road, 450 m away from Gampaha railway station. It has about 29 km far from the Sri Lanka's commercial capital of... More

Unfortunately, this botanical garden is not maintained properly. It has fallen to a level where you can't call it a botanical garden any more. I recently went on a picnic and returned back. There is rubbish all over the place. Roads, plants and trees are not taken care of. Only the roots of Sri Lanka's very first rubber tree is remaining... More

A great example of how even the largest places can be maintained in perfect manner. Acres of well kept, manicured lawn with hundreds of exotic plants. The Orchid zone was my personal favorite.

For a small town, the gardens are quite impressive. Young couples really enjoy their quiet time strolling or sitting under the shady trees. A boat ride on the lake is special. A pity foreign visitors pay an inflated entry fee (R1100).
