This place will impress you with its age and history, structure and simplicity. It's a great piece of architecture hundreds years old, used as a temple, church and surrounded by a graveyard.

Built with stones from Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa (some of them with the original Roman inscriptions), including some columns on the left side, this stone-made church has a unique, yet strange, architecture. The church is located near a cemetery, on a small hill. There are some...More

A beautiful and unique monument - apparently there aren't very many orthodox churches made of stones and rather as a fortress. The place is quiet and the drive there is quite pleasant. If in the area, it does worth to make tour and drive a...More

We came here at sunset. The church was no longer open, so we couldn't visit inside, unfortunately. However, the building impressed us. Worth a visit.

It's called the firs stone-made church in Romania so it's a must see attraction when visiting Hateg county. I had a strong and strange feeling entering this beautiful church.

Although it is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the origin of the church is enveloped by mystery. It seems to date back to the pre-Christian era, being the only place in Romania where religious services have been held since its inception.

A very old church. It's small and made of stone in the III-rd century. Not in the best state but definitely worth seeing. Easily accessible.

Old church with square top. Close to Hateg. It was unattended and closed, could not see the interior.
