One of the most beautiful and famous temples in Japan, best known for the temple on the back of a 10 yen coin. You may not be able to go inside the Hoo-do when it is crowded because they only let in 50 people at...More

This is truly one of the must see spots in Uji city. I was excited to see the main hall which is on our 10 yen coin! Well sacrificed.

We must have visited 30 temples during our 3 weeks, but this was our favourite. A short train trip from Kyoto Station, so relatively uncrowded. Stunning gardens during cherry blossom season. One original building over 1000 years old.

We travelled a little outside Kyoto ( by convenient) to see this very impressive temple which also has an excellent modern museum with artifacts relating to the temple. IMO this place outshines some of the more famous temples in Kyoto.

For me Japanese gardens are some of the most peaceful places anywhere. Though Byodoin is not one of the best known gardens in Kyoto, it's worth a visit nonetheless. We visited when the hanging asteria were in bloom, making the grounds even more attractive than...More

We visited this place during our short visit to Uji. The temple was not big but it was very well maintained, housed interesting exhibits and rather beautiful. Go early if you want to avoid the crowd and get good photos of the buildings there. Really...More

Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi
Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist
attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens,
temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for
strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine
itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the
mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers,
picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the
