When we were here in the morning, end October, it was very quiet which surprised us, because the view over the waterfalls, made by Roman prisoners in the third century, is in my view worth the entire journey to Shushar. So we were probably lucky and we were glad to have flown from Isfahan to see this.

A remarkable ancient feat of engineering, but to be honest it is just as well viewed from various points of the perimeter without paying the excessive entrance fee which, like everywhere else in otherwise charming Iran, has been hiked dramatically for foreigners.

Watermills disappeared but the irrigation systems , cascades and ancient man-made feeder tunnels are still impressive.

I visited Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System in a tour visit of Khuzestan Province in 2014. I rank it as the top attraction in Khuzestan and even south of Iran. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyes strolling through this UNESCO heritage site. It is kind of pricey but a very nice place to enjoy in the evening just before sunset

This place is a must visit. It can get really crowded so I suggest going as early as you can. The entrance fee was 3000 toman (almost a dollar) which was great. We stopped by the sherbet stall and bought ourselves a couple of cooling drinks (each). Mind you it can get really hot so the drinks were much appreciated... More

One of the best places I have visited in Iran. It is crowded, so go early in the morning. There is a tourist information office inside, with some nice booklets about the hydraulic system, and the city of Shushtar.

100% recommended, you'll be amazed of its historical origin and ingenuity. Spend time exploring all parts, and don't forget to go to Mar'ashi house to have a complete view of the area from top of the hill.

A masterpiece of creative genius, a spectacular complex of rivers, waterways, dams, waterfalls and canals.
