I went trekking in Antuco in the south of Chile. Excellent guide Juan Andrés from BioBio Outdoors. It's a must as the region is beautiful with overwhelming landscapes and fresh air. There was hardly any snow because of the rain, but it was perfect to walk to the multiple waterfalls and to Laguna El Laja. You need firm trekking boots because of the extensive areas witj volcano slag and a good raincoat and warm jacket especially in fall and winter. And don't miss a shish kebab with sopaipilla just next to the park's entrance. Go and enjoy the beauty of our South.

We took a drive to Antuco region in late April and we got surprised with its beauty and imposing scenery. The National Park was virtually empty allowing us to stop in many different places to take pictures and get fresh water straight from the Andes. The NP is very scenery offering options of canopy, trekking and hiking... The lake is also amazing. It's a nice and breathtaking place to visit off the beaten track. It's also a place of mourning because of an accident that happened in Chile with army personnel a few years ago (and you can visit the memorial and pay some respect).

My husband and I drove through the park during our road trip through Chile.
It is a magnificent park. We drove through the whole route and was awed the entire time. Two big thumbs up.
Unfortunately we did not get a chance to hike due to lack of timing. But, we would love to visit again and hike some of the trails.

We probably took 100 pictures inside the park. It is that beautiful! The views of the volcano and the glaciers are exceptional! The lake is gorgeous too. Stay clear of the buses rumbling through: they are straight out of Mad Max! We were there 6 hours and might have seen 10 cars. Not crowded at all.

Laguna del Laja National Park is about a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles, Chile with the last half hour on a gravel road. There are several hiking trails with views of waterfalls and the Volcan Antuco. You need to take your own food and drinks as there are no facilities except for a bathroom at the park entrance. It is a beautiful park and worth a day to visit. There is a small entrance fee.

Hola Maria P.

Is it necessary to have a 4X4 to drive within the park or can one drive a regular car?
