Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The National Glass Centre (Fundación Centro Nacional del Vidrio) in La Granja de San Ildefonso is just 10 kilometers away from Segovia. It has extensive exhibits of contemporary and historical glass. It also has coverage of the history of glass making in Spain as well as production and teaching areas. It's a real surprise for those who appreciate functional and artistic glass. Short courses in glass art are conducted in English. Highly recommended.

The same day that my friend and I visited the Royal Palace of La Granja went to the Glass Factory and museum. We saw the manufacture of glass and the old machines. The main objective of this factory was to built all the Glass stuff that the Palaces needed.
You can see the evolution of the glass works through the centuries. At the museum you can see the collections of blow glass and stained glass. It have permanent exhibition as the Maumejean Brother's Workshop; fabulous work in stained glass windows. Also European bottles and containers from the 16th Century.
They have a school, The Higher Education Institution of Glass.
My experience at this place was very pleasant.

I arrived right at 10 when they opened and enjoyed seeing all of the exhibits. There was one glass blower making vases and it was fascinating to watch her. I bought several gifts in the shop. The prices were excellent and the quality superb. They package everything very well for traveling. It was a real treat.

In the buildings of the original glass factory, this museum explains much about glass making including the opportunity to see crafts workers making fine crystal glassware. There are many old artefacts to see and some fascinating collections and exhibitions of both old and contemporary glass art. And there's a shop! A helpful guide leaflet in English explains much of what you see, and there are further explanations as you walk around. Recommended.

The crystal factory is an integral part of the history of this Royal town, which features in the exhibition and museum in the old glass factory. (The modern glass factory, a major local employer, is further down the same road and, today, is owned and managed by a company from France - EU Rules Ok!)
The old factory is packed with artifacts of the old working practices, from the early days to the pre-modern days. Unfortunately, the layout is somewhat haphazard and descriptions are too brief. There is little in English and no attempt to place everything into the context of glass production - old or modern. The exhibitions cover many many rooms but, without local knowledge, your nose will not get you to the right places. The museum has an exhibition that changes every few months but I find these also incomplete with poor explanations and little description of the context e.g. photographs of La Granja at the start of the C20th.
Perhaps the best part is the building in the old courtyard where you can see today's students learning the older techniques of glass making. Visit before and after visiting the museum per se.
In short, there is alot to see here but not alot is explained well.

Fascinating museum that show how various types of glass have been produced, specially years ago. The is a workshop/kiln where they actually blow glass objects. Quite a talent. Highly recommend.

This facility combines a functioning glass blowing workshop with a museum of glass creations. We enjoyed seeing the glassblowers at work, as well as walking through the museum.

In a building where glass was once worked is located this museum in which the art was one worked is now shown, I saw the installation somewhat neglected, and although it is quite interesting it was not very well explained the route or what was seen in each room, in specific area there are some workers who can be seen making these glasses as they used to do, but what they do is very simple only glasses, always the same and in a mechanical way without interacting with the public, the temporary exhibitions are interesting but again the route to be carried out is not well explained, nor how nor why in some areas there are some works and in another rooms others, in a nutshell the visit is worth it but there is much to improve in this museum

If you are visiting the nearby Palace, this museum makes an interesting addition to the day. The museum is quite large, with exhibitions of glass ranging in age from antiquity up to the present day. The major focus is on glass that was actually created in the royal glass factory, of course. The galleries are quite scattered, so the pamphlet that you can get at the entrance, with a map of the building, is helpful.
However, the highlight was the glass-blowing exhibition. According to my guidebook, this takes place every day other than Monday (when the museum is closed), from 10 or 11 AM to about 2:45 PM.
There is a large parking lot just to the west of the building.

I was recommended by a work colleague to come and visit this and I was not disappointed at all. It is a very interesting place and I really enjoyed seeing a small ball of glass transformed into a beautiful vase. Too bad the prices in the shop are quite high, I would have loved to buy something but it was way too expensive.

First: have to go to Segovia. Do you have a car? If not La Sepulvedana will take you direct to La Graja.

Vamos a ir nueve personas el sábado 27 y quería saber si se pueden reservar las entradas y si hay visita guiada
Written 20 May 2017
Sí, se puede reservar, pero no hay problema de aforo. Sí hay visitas guiadas. Se puede consultar en la página web. Fundamental, ir cuando los operarios están trabajando, siempre por la mañana. No se si en festivos. Consultar página web.
