- Emma W1 contributionTwilight rideI have done a couple of daytime rides with burnelee but the Twilight ride was amazing. We had a great time riding through the trees in the evening. The group was well catered to as everyone was at different levels from beginners to experienced riders. The food and drinks after the ride watching the sunset was excellent. Thank you to the wonderful guides and organisers.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 January 2024
- Laura S1 contributionLovely experienceI had a lovely time with my friends. The instructors really took their time to introduce the horses to us and make everyone feel comfortable before heading for the trail ride and checked in regularly with everyone to see how they are feeling. There was the opportunity for more experience riders to go off for a canter so it really caters to all experience levels. If following google maps it’s a bit misleading! Keep an eye out for the saddle on the fence at the entrance and you will find it.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 March 2024
- Rebecca F3 contributionsJust Wonderful! My family grew up with horses but hadn't ridden for years. I took my sister to Burnelee for a trail ride for her birthday and we had an amazing experience! The team were fantastic - friendly, professional and purely interested in everyone enjoying the experience ensuring everyone's abilities were catered for. The horses were clearly well loved, trained and cared for, the gear was top quality. The property was absolutely gorgeous, and we loved moving through the bush on horseback. Thank you Burnelee crew, we loved it and will definitely be back!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 March 2024
- JeanneSingapore, Singapore4 contributionsAWESOMEI took the 2 hour trail ride with Burnelee and it was awesome! The guides were totally professional and friendly; there were more guides than I had expected for the group size, which made it more assuring. Safety was big, they ensured that the riders were briefed properly, and the tack was inspected before we embarked. Safety tips were repeated through the hack. The guides periodically checked that we were comfortable. At some point, the group was split into 2- beginner and intermediate. The intermediate group of about 5-6 did some spots of trot and canter uphill. There was a good 3-4 guides with us, always checking in on us. The lead guide ensured that the pace was manageable for those following behind. In all, the ride was very well prepared and organized. I felt I was in safe hands. Totally enjoyed the hack!Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 31 March 2024
- Paul RCanberra, Australia198 contributionsANNIVERSARY HACK IN THE BUSHThis is a 12 out of 10 activity. As someone who has never ridden a horse in 6 decades. The staff made me feel confident right from the start and the horse they assigned to me, a Clydesdale called Millie, was an absolute darling. We didn't just walk along flat bushland we went up and diwn some trick slopes. With the aid of some really encouraging staff I felt like a wrangler by the end. My wife and I thourghily enjoyed ourselves. I would seriously recommend the team and the activityVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2024
- Justine D8 contributionsAmazing experience, good people, and happy horsesI went for a "Bush experience ride" on my own, the staff made me feel welcome and made the effort to get to know me, it quickly felt like being amongst friends. Before your ride you will be provided with all the info you need, so it is very well organised. The horses are well looked after and the staff made a perfect match for me. The bushland is so beautiful, and the whole experience made me feel like I went on a mini holiday. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back myself!Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 June 2024
- Alison C4 contributionsFive stars for location, guides and of course horsesGreat ride through lovely Australian bush with helpful friendly guides. I hadn’t ridden for 20 odd years but wanted to start preparing for a long ride. The team were diligent in trying to plan the ride to give beginners, returning riders and advanced riders the best experience possible. The horses who were all well behaved were introduced with their quirks which really helped us get to know them (thanks to my lovely boy Jamison who really wants to be second in line and loves a loose rein!) Would thoroughly recommend this to locals like me and foreigners who want to see some typical Australian bush.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 3 August 2024

The scenery was good and the horses were generally fine. However it was very disappointing not to be given the opportunity to canter. The best we were offered was a short trot of about 50 metres, although 3 women who knew the leader were divided off and allowed to canter by themselves. My friend was a learner but was allocated a horse that proved unenjoyable to ride. The woman leader said, with a laugh, several times, that his horse, Millie, "was a mare and had a mine of her own". Hardy the best horse for a learner.
The experience would have been more enjoyable had we had the chance, like 3 others who knew the leader, to canter, rather than walk for 2 hours. I am 71 years old and would not gallop off, throwing my arms in the air, but a short canter would have made a big difference. I'm not a regular rider but have ridden many times in my life without ever falling off a horse so I felt confident to canter without risk

My 9-year old daughter and I had an awesome 2h trail [beginner/ limited previous experience] ride in the bushland. The staff were very friendly and competent, with one person riding next to my daughter for the whole ride, basically giving her a private riding lesson. Unlike many trailriding horses, these horses did indeed take instruction and had been taught to keep some personal space; i.e. it wasn't just a line of horses mindlessly following each other bum-to-bum. I highly recommend it and hope to be back there soon!

I have been riding with Burnelee off and on since I moved to Canberra in 2006. The things I value about Burnelee are the lovely horses, the clear regard for animal welfare, and the care of the land that are all evident every time I ride here. Bush rides take you through the conservancy of the property (the rest of which is devoted to farming), and it is just beautiful. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, professional and put the horse's welfare ahead of people's egos (those who claim they are expereinced riders but then try to mount on the wrong side), which is as it should be. HIghly recommend Burnelee, for all levels of experience!

Thank you Bec and Pen for another perfect ride. The horses are well cared for and very sound to ride in the bush. The facility where you arrive, the tack and grounds are immaculate. Staff are polite, explain everything very well and are generally great fun to ride with. They cater for all levels of riding - novice to experienced - and when riding in a mixed level group, they break out to the different skill levels to make sure everyone is safe and is having fun. Thank you Benson to let me ride you again!

I highly recommend Burnelee for anyone who wants to go trail riding in a natural Australian bush setting. Their rides are suitable for people of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to experienced riders. The staff are knowledgeable about the horses and all safety aspects with a good staff to client ratio to ensure everyone is well looked after. They take the more experienced riders for some separate trotting and cantering but everyone joins up again so if you are in a group with a mix of experience you will all have fun together too. You’ll often see kangaroos, wallabies and other wildlife including rare moths and butterflies that live on the property.
The horses are well looked after and very safe to ride, and they match each rider to a horse that suits them so you won’t be bored if (like me) you are a more experienced rider. The twilight rides are lovely with yummy food and wine after the trail ride. I’ve also been on one of their muster rides which was really different and a great experience, I learnt a lot of things about horses and herds of sheep and cattle as well as enjoying the ride.

What a way to spend a Saturday! I felt the love that Burnelee have for their horses on this trail ride. The horses were so well looked after and each one was matched thoughtfully to the rider. The guides were professional and personable, and the ratio of leaders to participants had me feeling safe and confident. The scenery was magical...it was hard to believe we were only half an hour from Canberra! It was my partner's first time on horseback and his look of terror quickly transformed to a smile that stayed on his face all day. A completely welcoming and unpretentious outfit, can't wait to go back!

The Twilight trek was a fantastic experience. The scenery was stunning, the guides were knowledgeable and as a novice, I felt very safe and comfortable with the horses. With local businesses collaborating and promoting their food and wine, it was delicious end to a wonderful evening.

I rode a lot in the past but sadly no access now and was looking for somewhere to have an occasional ride. ‘Burnelee’ has been perfect. The horses are well cared for, the gear in good condition and all run to ensure maximum safety and care for riders and horses. They manage to give experienced and first timers great rides by splitting up so some can trot and canter and others can do more quietly through wonderful natural bush with varied terrain for interest. Rachel and Deb and their team are careful, thoughtful and encouraging. The rides I have been on were managed so professionally but also were fun with views and chats and wildlife.
We were all matched to suitable horses who were well trained. Some were bred and trained on the property. Mine were both comfortable and free moving , a delight for a more experienced rider, but less experienced riders also seemed well matched with steady reliable partners giving a great platform for enjoying a ramble on the Bush with your equine friend.
So lucky to have this well run asset on our doorstep.

In the 1980's I was a Randwick based race horse strapper, then an instructor at a Sydney riding school, then bred my own quarter horses.20 years ago I lost my nerve when my favourite horse died aged 30. I just couldn't face riding any other horses and now I can't imagine getting back on a horse. I would love to be helped to mount with a mounting block to ride in a yard on a quiet horse for just half an hour under the supervision of a kind understanding person, to know if I can get my nerve back. Would Burnelee be able to help me see if I can get back on a horse please as I would love to return to horse riding?
