We recently came across this winery while staying at Warrumbui Retreat. The winery is located within walking distance from the retreat. This a winery that clearly takes great pride in producing quality wines and that visitors have an enjoyable experience. Unlike wine regions that attract large numbers of tourists, here you have the exeperience of talking with the wine maker as you make your selections and taste the wine. You are able to try 4 wines for free from the wines produced by the winery. All fruit is grown on the site. There are reasonably priced platters to share. This family run winery is well worth taking the time to visit. It is open for tasting from Friday to Sunday 11am-5pm.

It was my first visit to Yarrh and the surrounding views are so beautiful and relaxing. Their wines are excellent and the mr natural range is really unusual in the region.

We stumbled across this secluded little winery with a perfect vantage point perched on a lovely bushy hill while out and about exploring Murrumbateman wineries on the long weekend. As it was later in the afternoon we lucked into being the only ones there for a tasting. Informative, friendly tasting served by the winemakers’ husband - who also grows the grapes 🍇😊. Great variety of very delicious wines, we bought several lovely bottles to come home with us (and they won’t last long 😉). My favourite was the Mr Natural Shiraz - a little bit different, which I like.

Visited Yarrh Wines for the first time during this 2019 Canberra Wine Festival. It was a very pleasant experience - good range of wines - all well presented and stunning views over the Yass River valley. There were matched food and wine plates for lunch. I had prawn and cucumber with the 2018 Riesling. Curious about the Vineyard's name I asked the hosts - winemaker Fiona Wholohan and partner Neil about the origins. It was the name given by an Aboriginal tracker with Hamilton Hume's exploration party to the Yass River - "running water". The vineyard is located about 25 minutes away from Yass and 45 minutes from Canberra city. Getting there involves an extra mile of driving but is well worth it.

Yarrh winery is very much a small, hands-on, family-run business. Fiona Wholohan is Yarrh's winemaker, and she crafts the limited-release wines superbly (there's a good chance that she'll be at the cellar door). Given that everything is done by hand the wines are very reasonably priced. And watch out for a new variety coming along - Fiano. When food is on offer it's great, but it is subject to demand and to the weather: the formula changes. The best time to visit is the first Sunday in each quarter, when there might be a food-and-wine match on - on the other hand it might be cancelled so check the informative website, or call Fiona or Neil to be sure. Another great time to watch out for is between Christmas and New Year when street food is on offer - daily. Otherwise Yarrh participates in a couple of local food and wine festivals each year. Yarrh is slightly isolated from the other Murrumbateman wineries, but if you make the trip there you're rewarded with a relaxing outdoor area - a veritable oasis in the bush where you can drink in the view over a cheeky glass of rose Meanwhile, soft drinks are available for the kids.

Thank you so much for the review CultureCommando. You got it pretty much spot on. So pleased that you enjoyed your visit and, of course, the wines.

Went to Yarrh as part of Canberra wine week celebrations. Neil and Fiona are excellent hosts. Fiona does the wine making and was more than easy to talk with. It was wonderful to hear the focus on organic processes, quality fruit and how wines come together at Yarrh. We had a meal there, roast venison wrapped in pork with all the trimmings and a glass of your choice for $25.00. Yummo and what a bargain...The live music in the barrel enclave meant the acoustics were perfect and the music excellent...what a marvellous find...and all within 40 mins from home! We joined the wine club and will be back!

This is a really nice spot to taste some wine.

great building. terrific view.

We were referred to Yarrh by one of the other winemakers and we were very glad we made the detour. they are doing some fun stuff... like the Rosé and the Mr Natural Shiraz - I'm going to try and keep this one in the cellar for a few years as it could be exceptional once its left to settle.

Yarrh Wines is nestled on a secluded hilltop in the Mundoonen Ranges with native woodlands all around. The modern winery and cellar door is eye-catching and enticing. Fiona and Neil put on a great wine tasting experience and are eager to share their indepth knowledge of the complete life cycle of their wines including the management of their vineyard, the varied wine making practices employed and the final result in the bottle. The Yarrh Riesling is always an excellent example of the cool climate citrus tang we have come to love and their Shiraz and Cabernet are also great offerings. One of my go-to varieties is their Sangiovese - a wonderful expression of spice and seductive fruit. Yarrh is a great wine experience and well worth the travel along the scenic road to get there.

An excellent winery to visit, rustic and chic and approachable. Views of the vineyards and surrounding countryside are stellar. The tasting room extension of the winery itself is very chic and enjoyable. Wines were great, some of the best in the area. We sampled an experimental passito which I loved. A great experience for the informed wine enthusiast.

As others have commented, the setting here is superb and well worth the extra effort to get to.
Our host was welcoming and very informative and as always seems to be the case in Murrumbateman, the wines were excellent.
