Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a famous photo stop. Nice view and a lovely little walk at the ocean.
Parking is not a problem and a small cafe next to it.

Worth a stop.

The views were incredible. A historic point in the island. Such serenity and natural beauty all around. Less developed side of the island with incredible views and from there easy access to Porto Moniz or even up to FINAL forest for a beautiful sunset. In Ribeira da Janela make sure you visit the sea part (of course) but also drive up to their beautiful little church with great views. Continue going up to reach the famous Ribeira da Janela swing view point. Breathtaking!

This is another tourist attraction due to the uniqueness of the environment. Black lava rocks are visible and beautiful views with viewing points.

Wednesday 16th of June and we visited
this rock formation. It is located along the northwest corner of the Island between Porto Moniz and Seixal.

It is a small rock formation, jutting up from the sea, comprising of 3 Islands, Ilheus de Rib, Ilheu Zhino and Ilheus da Janela.

Having parked the car we walked towards Praia da Ribeira da Janela, past the small Shrine in the rockface. We were so surprised and amazed how the entire scene unfolded.

There was the small beach with its dark rocks, pepples and cliffs at both ends. However the island were the stars of the show.

There was a small Mirador near by, climb the steps and walk through the hole in the rock, and get an eyefull.

Every element, the beach, the Mirador, the islands, the scenery and the wilderness all contribute to making this an amazing place to visit. Totally surprised by this place, loved it.

We stopped at alot of lookouts on our travels around Madeira Island but never saw anything like this. There's a large parking lot which in itself is odd for Madeira and we were the only ones there. Short walk up some steps to view the interesting rock formations.

This is a great stop on way to Porto Moniz. I recommend this site but not the natural pools at Porto Moniz, so for a day trip from Funchal i'm not sure if it's worth it just for this site (long drive) unless you do want to come out this way for other things.

Really scenic coastline with rock stacks and stumps. Worth stopping here for ten minutes whilst touring the island.

A very special site - The ocean, the special rocks, the road from there up to Janela. All these make it worth visiting.

Ribeira Da Janela is just off the road to Porto Moniz. It's a pebbly beach with rough sea waves crashing in. A pretty photo opportunity and well worth a stop. Looks great when stormy. Saw some people diving here but I would not risk it as the water looked choppy and current strong.

This is accessible from the road along Porto Moniz and there are 3 rock outcrops jutting out of the sea. It's size and height pales with the 12 Apostles of the great ocean drive. However with a rough and windy sea the dynamics of the waves make it a spectacular view. One has a hole in it. You could walk up about 30 ft to a viewing chamber at the cliffs to get some shoots or walk along the pebble beach for photo shoots. Well worth a visit.
