Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were traveling to Santa Maria Ixtatlan to visit some remote palenques that fermented their agave in stretched cowhides. We opted to break up the 2 1/2 hour trip with a stop at Coixtlahuaca church. What a surprise! This 16th century temple with adjoining open chapel is magnificent and appears to be mostly original. The open chapel was constructed before the temple to entice the indigenous people to worship and not feel completely enclosed. The stone carvings here and elsewhere are excellent examples of the local stonemasons interpretations of Spanish designs. The carvings of the "passion of Christ", on the adjacent side of the temple, are especially interesting and very detailed. We were very fortunate that a custodian escorted us into the chapel for a rare view of the interior which is not open to the public. Simply Amazing!

There had been some important restauration works that allow to enjoy the greatness of the place. Is a really big construction that let you see how important it was. Unfortunately the works were not finished even the advance was important, there is even a possible interpretation center that is not working, hopefully INAH would finish this work. It really worths to deviate from the main high roads is less than 10 minutes away and no additional tolls!
