Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The journey is worth it. The road is not paved but is in very good condition. There is a restaurant and toilets at the parking lot. From the parking lot it's just 10-15 minutes to the viewing area, from where you have a very nice view of the waterfall. However, it is tight here if there are more than 10 visitors at the same time. It takes another 45-60 minutes to get directly to the waterfall.

Barskoon is a long valley with multiple attractions, but waterfalls are the first-ones you reach by comfortable dirt road (built and used for gold mine). There are multiple waterfalls at the beginning of the valley, and you may choose which part to visit based on your hiking experience. Hiking paths to waterfalls start at the parking lot, opposite to boulder with sculpture of Yurii Gagarin (soviet cosmonaut, who as others cosmonauts visited Issyk Kul resorts for rehabilitation). Slopes are quite steep and you should be careful when hiking to higher parts of the waterfall. You may visit the waterfalls at any season. They freeze during the winter.

When we arrived in the afternoon there were foggy & cold coz its snowing a day before we came. After a while the place were brightened by the sunshine. Superb view! Beautiful snow mountain but we can't see the waterfall as the track to the waterfall was slippery.

The Valley is not far from the main road, which is nice and smooth. There are three waterfalls near the Gagarin monument. After that you could climb further to Arabel Pass at 3600 meters. It gets a bit crowded at the first waterfall, but the second and third ones needs a bit hiking. Yurt camps are available for overnight stay.

It's a distance of 60 kilometers. 3 pass - Sary-Moinok,  Barskoon and Suyok. For my taste, the best one-day trip on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul. Comparable may be leaving Tosor via pass Ushkechmek through which you could drive even to Naryn, but this year 3 weeks before our arrival there came the mudflow, and the gorge became impassable. In Barskoon there are amazing views, especially in the area of the second pass - where is located the so-called Arabel Syrt. It's like a mini Iceland. Harsh and beautiful Northern landscape.

it is the nature at its best, with a lot of hidden beauties places to admire the natural wonders of this world, no wonder that the famous Russian Astronaut Gagarin, placed his famous Yurt isolated from the world to relax and meditate.

Must visit if you travel along the south shore of lake Issik Kul. It's not too far from the main road thanks to good roads snaking its way along the gorge. The most popular attractions are the beautiful waterfalls. We made it only to the very fist waterfall which is about 15 minutes from the main road. I believe there are three levels of the same waterfall and depending on how adventurous and fit you are you can choose which one you'd like to visit. The first level is quite easy and anyone should be able to get there without much difficulty. You can also go there and back on horseback which is highly recommended, quite an experience. There are also several yurtas which serve all kind of local dishes. Make sure to order samovar tea with borsoks and kaimak (home made cream of milk) for starters, absolutely delicious. Take your time and enjoy the serene atmosphere and taste of local culture.

The only thing to really see in the Barskoon Gorge is the large waterfall. It's worth seeing because it's so big and the views are nice. In general the Barskoon Gorge is quite steep and rocky. There is not much else to do there.

The most interesting thing to drive to the end of the gorge to the 2nd boarder zone check and have a look around.
