Lovely way to spend a morning, lots of really fresh food to buy and plenty of other stalls to browse and of course great Coffee. It's not too big so easy to work out what's where.

Seafood here is fresh, best place to quench your sashimi and oyster crave. Also one of the best place for quiches and not forgetting the lovely little French bakery serving delicious croissant and lemon cake

A great place to visit in the heart of Melbourne with a large variety of fresh produce and lots to see and do. Just walking around is fun in itself and then you can enjoy a coffee as Melbourne is known to serve the best coffee in town, I loved South Melbourne Market and I will absolutely go again

There are many stalls with wide ranging products and produce. The famous South Melbourne Market dim sims are the BEST in the world. Easy to navigate and good prices. Produce stalls are all great quality - seafood, delis, butchers, coffee outlets etc. highly recommend to all

Great atmosphere, absolutely packed and so many stalls with so much produce - great options from the freshest of seafoods to dumplings - easy to get to. Catching a tram to stop 127 was so much easier than driving and not getting a parking space.

I'm a regular shopper at the Market as the atmosphere is vibrant and the layout of the vendors is just right as you get a separation from the food stall at the west end of the facility. This place offers old with the new and over the last couple of years its turned out to be very trendy. The only... More

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
