Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Central Gardens can be hired for weddings, christenings and other functions; the mature trees and rolling lawns make it favourable for such events. There's a water fountain in memory of Cr William Cowper dating from the Edwardian era. There is also a rotunda and BBQ with tables and benches. Toilets are provided. The Gardens are large for a middle suburban area, and are just over 3 ha (7 acres).

Hawthorn is an estasblished Melbourne suburb dating from the 19th century. The Central Gardens are in the heart of this garden suburb. They feature magnificent mature trees and sweeping lawns. The Gardens feature a rotunda, which can be hired for functions. The 'rooms' created by the trees provide picturesque photo opportunities. The Gardens have BBQs and picnic tables. The rocket ship is popular with yougsters; so is the super-long slide. The Gardens are well-known to local residents and students.

My children and I used to go to the rocket park every second weekend when they were preschoolers. Just after brunch on Sunday 4 December, I decided to walk to Glenferrie Road to go get a prescription filled. It was a nice warm day so Labrador Maximus came with me. Instead of going the most direct route, I thought I'd go via backstreets and take the "scenic" way. I came to Central Park from the west side (the other side to the rocket) so I walked through the park (Max on leash) to reminisce. There were plenty of happy children playing and contented adults chatting away. Ah, the memories. This is a lovely lush park with plenty of shade and seating. It is a delight to walk through it.

We met some friends here for a lovely afternoon in the sun, easy to get to on public transport and plenty of car parking. Great playground, bbq's and picnic tables, the grounds and trees and just gorgeous.

Whilst we use this park as a way to Glenferrie Rd, it is a beautiful park to do laps of either walking or jogging. The lawns are immaculately kept and the floral display is good. The well established trees are beautiful to lie under and watch the clouds sail past. The Rocket Ship Park as it fondly known is a great hit with the kids along with the play equipment but is located in its own section and away from other sections of the park. Our beautiful local park !

Central Park's best known feature among the younger set is the Rocket, which is a great adventure to climb; it also has an extra-long slide. The gardens have lush foliage, meandering paths and 'green rooms' for photography. Since they were established in 1900, the gardens have had their ups and downs, but they remain one of Hawthorn's favorite places; the gardens can be hired for functions.

This is a great park with so many things. The playground has a 3 storey rocket ship for the kids to climb on, quite scary for me. There are old trees and interesting plants. The lawns are extensive, there is seating, picnic tables and BBQs, and there are public toilets. It is all well maintained, too.

Grab an ice cream or a coffee from Glenferrie road and wander through the university campus to find this gorgrous old style structured garden. Little kids would love the rocket they can climb all over!

Central Gardens is surrounded in nearby streets by some attractive period housing and is a good respite from busy local roads.

It looks prim and proper, but I'd like to see more Australian natives planted to attract silvereyes and honeyeaters such as brush wattlebirds.

It is easily accessible by Metro train to Glenferrie station or on the number 16 cross-suburban Yarra Trams route.
