- Darlene EvansLongforgan, United Kingdom78 contributionsBe careful of the path you chooseMy husband and I went here on the last day of our holiday as a short walk before heading home, we read the walk highlands description and set off from the visitor centre following the blue way markers turning left at the deer centre . The broad path climbed gradually uphill affording us great views of Cairn Gorm, the path then led onto a narrow forest path which was very rough and descended very steeply down to the loch the path would be very slippery in wet conditions and not for the elderly or inexperienced. However we arrived at the loch and it was beautiful and well worth the hike, we returned on a broad path back to the visitor centre which if we had known we would have used on our outward journey. For future travellers instead of turning left and following the blue way marker at the deer centre continue straight on at the deer centre and follow the old logging path also marked by a blue markerVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- Alka PBournemouth, United Kingdom165 contributionsBeware the Blue Route if you don’t like unstable long steep declines! We took the blue route - which I have to say under described how treacherous this route can be. The 6km round trip involved the first 3.5km being a steep gravel up hill which then turned into a rocky steep decline through the forest and down the side of the mountain! The map needs to make this clearer as the simpler (and less treacherous) way would be to go straight ahead past the deer centre and not follow the blue path left before it. BUT when we got to the bottom it was a lovely sight. Not as green as some of the photos we’ve seen but worth it. The leisurely trail back through the forest was much more pleasureable. And easier on the heart!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023
- Trog48 contributionsWorth the walkWorth the walk (a hard walk on the footpath but with splendid views) or cycle ride (along the forestry path). Probably gets very busy but we went in the late afternoon. Makes a nice round trip on foot from Glenmore visitor centre. Friendly ducks will home in on anyone who looks like they may be carrying food!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- Maxine JNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom11 contributionsBeautiful walk and stunning unique locheLoved this walk so much, what a beautiful loche and fun folklore story behind it that the kids loved. The only issue is I wish it was a better sign posted / written route. I couldn’t find much info so we parked in a car park that looked like it was part of the route on the map but it wasn’t, so I’d 100% recommend parking at the reindeer centre and walking along that road. Every time we followed the signs to get back to the car park we used we ended up going in circles, so wouldn’t recommend parking at allt morVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 November 2023

We did a full circuit which took around 1.5 hours with stops for photos. Park at the visitors centre and just follow the signs. - brambles2015Inverness, United Kingdom34 contributionsA really enjoyable walk with a hidden gem at the end .You set out from Glenmore cafe pass The Reindeer Centre on your left then straight on, about a 40 minute walk, foot path all the way. then on your right The Green Loch just appears, just be careful going down to it, keep watching your feet lots of tree roots and stones. Then enjoy the tranquility. Special place .Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 May 2024
- Samantha G4 contributionsLovely pram & dog friendly walkLovely short walk suitable for pram and dog. We went early and got parked along the road right beside the start of the path, 20 min walk there and back. The Loch is beautiful!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 June 2024
- Gill P29 contributionsGorgeousWalked up quite late in the day so not busy at all. Bit of a trek ( we'd done Loch Eilien already that day) but lovely walk. The loch was so colourful ( green) and so peaceful. Was abt 3.5 miles from the reindeer centre and back. Well worth it.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2024

Fairly easy walk from Glenmore to the Green Loch along a well maintained and way marked path. Steepish steps down to the loch, but there is a 'balcony' style area with a great view if you don't want to go down. Great for a swim (humans and dogs!). Stunning colours.

We cycled here on a larger route we were doing. It was well worth it and was an ideal picnic spot. The colour of the lake is fascinating, especially as we visited on a warm sunnday day!
Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

Hat a beautiful place to visit and what a delight at the midpoint of the Blue Walking Route.
The Blue Walking Route is not for those who are not secure with their footing or have no walking boots. Use the Old Logging Road to walk a very secure footpath ( suitable for prams and buggies) to reach this beautiful loch.
Two miles there and another two back but so worth it if you can do it!
Peaceful and beautiful. What more could you want on a sunny day in Scotland?!

The Loch itself is very picturesque however signage could be greatly improved. It would be helpful if there was a sign from the visitor centre saying Loch this way. It is only when you get 15 minutes in that there is a sign. It would be handy to have on the wooden signs how long is left to walk and duration (I was a bit concerned about being in the Cairngorms in the dark!!)

A lovely walk through the snow to get to the green loch. A fairly easy well signposted walk from the glenmore visitor centre. An easy, quick bus ride from Aviemore train station to get there. Easily one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited, would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

Where is the closest place you can park to walk to the Loch?
Written 10 October 2020
You can park on the road by Glenmore Lodge. That would be the closest place.
Written 11 October 2020
Is the road into that car park suitable for camper vans
Written 16 August 2020
If you mean the "car park" at Glenmore Lodge, then I would definitely say no. There is not much space for turning. Its not impossible as you could use the Glenmore lodge space to turn in but I probably wouldnt attempt it.

Hello, I have looked at the questions and see that it is wheelchair accessible 🙂 my question is slightly different, I am a lower leg amputee but I use my prosthetic leg instead of a wheelchair, are there many steep slopes on the route as these are impossible for me and generally do you think it would be accessible for me? Many thanks in advance
Written 23 July 2020
I think I would add just one thing - if you wanted to go down to the lochside it involves either a steeper earthy kind of slope or steps. As the previous responder said the path itself from the car park or the lodge is pretty solid.

Lovely walk beautiful,NB only looks green from the side. If looking along it you miss the Green as it comes from whatever the rock at the side is, it's colour shine through the water . Don't copy me , photos from the end is great but not green. Photo from the side

You may be right - all I can say is I wouldnt swim in it or let my dogs in it. When the sky is blue and the water is still green that tells me something about it.

Can you stay overnight in a camper van next to the loch ?
Written 5 January 2020
No you can not there is a campsite about a mile away from it.
Written 5 January 2020
The track is wide and easy going so yes very accessible. Narrower 3-4ft and undulating by the roadside past Glenmore Lodge but then widens out 6-8ft.

Don't want to alarm you but there are apparently leeches in this loch. Pictures on the Walkhighland website.
Written 25 July 2018
They are horse leeches. Misnamed they feed off fish. Totally unlikely to touch a human and if they did no matter. Just brush them off

Some reviews say that the walk is easy, flat and short (30 min each way).
May I ask you where did you park for this walk?
I'm looking for a very easy walk as we have two very young kids aged 10 months and 3.
We are in Aviemore just now, visiting the area with a motorhome.
Many thanks!

Perfect walk for you and young kids as is Loch an Eilein but you dont have to pay to park at Glenmore lodge
