About
Welcome to 'The Wonston'. A village pub in the pretty Hampshire village of Wonston. Saved from closure & being run by a local resident of the village Matt. We have fine ales and lush wine and piping hot tea & coffee. It's a great place for locals and visitors alike to meet and socialise in lovely, friendly surroundings. We are a small Pub, we are not a gastro pub, we do not do food. Our stock of carefully kept Hampshire Fine cask Ales & lush wines from around the world and over 200 Artisan Gins Selection are causing quite a stir. North Hampshire CAMRA Area Pub of the Year 2016 & 2017 2018 2019 2020. Wessex CAMRA Regional Pub of The Year 2017 & 2018. Awarded National CAMRA Pub of the Year 2018. 2017. Mountain Warehouse Britain's Best Post Walk Pint Pub of The Year. In response to the Covid pandemic, we have an outdoor only beach bar. Covered seating beach chalets with heaters , dry and cosy and Table service only. Friday is our Curry night, order by midday Friday, eat at 19.30

Having come to Winchester for a "staycation" we had little knowledge of the area and our Airbnb host spoke so highly of this place so we decided to give it a chance! After a 50 minute walk to The Wonston Arms we were not disappointed! Matt and Lisa went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and were so lovely and so were the 2 lads on shift also (didn't catch their names apologies!!). Great selection of craft beers and gin, lovely atmosphere, an all-round fantastic experience and was well worth the country walk.

Truly an ale lovers dream tucked away from the main roads and so worthy of a visit. All of the staff were genuinely happy to see people (locals and visitors alike!) but as it's small (and in a very small village) I found the whole visit fantastic!

Quirky, friendly, great choice of drinks. Love the way that they have modified the place for the outside drinking. Worth a detour for sure.

We took a lunchtime trip out to The Wonston Arms as a birthday treat and were amazed at the measures that have been taken to make the outside space welcoming, warm, attractive and safe. A huge effort has been made by the enterprising landlord and the good thing is, this space will continue to be very appealing in all weather after the pub is fully open.

The Wonston is the type of pub that really deserves to flourish. The landlord goes out of his way to welcome and chat to his customers - this is definitely not a cliquey local. It's a great place for a chat but equally good if you just want to sit on your own .

Be aware that food is not served but instead there is a variety of visiting food vans in the evening throughout the week. The beer is superbly kept.

Unfortunately we are not local. If we were, The Wonston would probably be our second home! It really deserves support. It's wonderful!

Finally paid a visit what a lovely friendly place with excellent beer - we enjoyed sitting in the Beach Area. Excellent COVID process and owners so helpful and welcoming, if only we lived closer :-) Doubtless we will return again soon, it was worth the journey Thanks for the welcome to a real pub.

First and only review I'm going to do while in lock down. I have just received my second order from this pub, and I have to say that not many places are trying as hard or supplying such quality as this little pub. First order (obviously takeaway) was for 4 pints of cider and 4 pints of lager, not usual pub draught rubbish craft brew and both lovely, second order was for 2 different types of cider and 2 different types of lager. I cannot recommend this pub or delivery highly enough. Thank you very much wonston Arms

During a weekend away in Sutton Scotney, one of our group mentioned that she’d like to visit the Wonston Arms as she’d heard it had been rated best pub in the country. We therefore took a short walk up to the pub for a quick drink and agree, it’s lovely! Set back on a country road, it’s small and quaint inside but has a real charm to it. It’s clearly popular as there weren’t any seats when we got there, but even in the February cold we sat outside to enjoy our drinks (there were some heaters outside which helped!). Although we didn’t eat, we loved that there was a little street vendor van parked outside where pub goers were able to order Thai food and take it back into the pub. It was clearly popular! We enjoyed our visit and glad we made the effort to pop by for a quick drink - no doubt if we’re local again, we’ll be back.
