Half the site not accessible
Jun. 2021
We werw there about a week ago and paid the full price of €6 per person, only to discover that about half of the site (the lower half) was not accessible to visitors due to all the walking paths heading south being overgrown by plants which no one had cared to cut. The green also covered the Greek theatre, in dire need of some maintenance. This was very disappointing to us, as the site would have been otherwise quite interesting with its impressive and ancient Greek structures. If they want tourists to start and keep coming after this past year of hardship for the tourism industry, then they should definitely prepare better...

Interesting historical site
Sep. 2019
Went to Tindari to see the Basilica but visited here too and were so glad we did - what a lovely site. Not expensive to visit and a short walk from the church, the site has a Greek theatre facing the sea, remains of a Roman villa, a gymnasium, mosaics and baths - it wasn't at all busy when we were there. There are also artefacts on display in a small museum. The city was built by Dionysius in C396 BC and the ruins were discovered in C19th. Definitely make the time to visit.

Its advertised as the Greek theatro but in fact the ruins ate quite extensive and also include a part rebuilt basilica, a bath house complex and a small museum. Great to wander.

More Impressive Greek Ruins

Our tourist stop on the way to Cefalu. Park below and take a shuttle bus up. There’s still a bit of an uphill walk to the piazza in front of the church. Keep on going through the places selling tourist trinkets to finally get to the park. It’s well with the time if you are nearby. Felt much like a small version of Pompeii. You also won’t be dealing with swarms of your groups. There’s a theater sited to have a magnificent view toward the water. Wear good walking shoes and bring a walking stick if you have one.

Well worth a visit. Take the bus to the top of the hill and allow an hour. A great insight into Ancient greek and Roman culture. Fabulous view.
