Worth a visit
May 2021
We visited Hartley's in the afternoon and enjoyed our visit very much. The staff were great and very knowledgeable. Lots and lots of crocs which we found fascinating.

We really enjoyed the Birds of Prey too. Definitely worth a visit.

Spotted lots of crocs on the boat trip. The afternoon Croc Attack Show was really good, very entertaining, informative and would recommend.

Fabulous experience!
Apr. 2021
My seven year old son, husband and I had the BEST day here. Our son loves all things reptiles and so we booked for the "Reptastic 5" experience, and it was a very special experience.
Our host, Alex, was very knowledgable, helpful and calm as he taught us about snakes, crocodiles, allocators and turtles. He also helped us feed the snakes and alligators, and hold a python! Things I had never thought we'd ever do!! It was 100% worth the additional cost to do this behind the scenes add on to entry, and would like to do it again someday. We had a blast! This is a very special, very well run place. The crocodile and snake shows are also not to be missed!

We had to go though quite a bit of operational research to recommence our much loved Reptastic 5 tour so we are sincerely delighted that you enjoyed both our experience and Alex your host, who is very passionate about reptiles as you'll doubtless have been made aware. Also appreciate your comments about our Crocodile and Snake shows. They are well researched and presented by very passionate keeper/guides. Thanks once again for making our day!

Adventure packed day!!!
Mar. 2021 • Couples
When we arrived we did one presentation after the other as there was so much to see. We had lunch on the viewing platform on the croc waters. After walking the site by ourselves we left after 4 hours but there were still more presentations. Definitely exceeded my expectations!

A zoo experience for young children
Apr. 2021
We went with our family of two teenagers and a 4 year old. We feel that Hartley's provides a good 'zoo' experience. Like all zoos, you get to see animals at close range as they are within their restricted, allocated areas.

Hartley's provides a respite/home to crocodiles that have to be relocated from certain situations where they are a menace.

Hartley's also runs a crocodile farm where the tourists can see how they are raised for their meat for food and skins for clothing and apparel.

Hartley's have a man made lagoon where there are lots of crocodiles that have been lucky enough to have been released there. You get to go on a boat where the many crocodiles will come to snap at the bait of the chicken carcass that gets dangled above the water near your boat. This makes for great photo opportunities.

Aside from a couple of large male crocodiles that we felt were kept within small enclosures, we left feeling that on the whole, the animals were basically cared for. We were told that these large males were isolated as they had proved to be too aggressive to belong to the whole, large group of crocodiles. We felt that their enclosure could have been more thoughtful for their needs.

A couple of hours was enough for us, we arrived mid morning. We didn't get to see the Croc Show (mid afternoon). They are good that they give you a ticket to return within a couple of days, but we didn't.

We went on one of the Daintree River cruises a few days later and saw lots of natural wildlife. The tour operators all have their own parts of the river that they work on. They get to know all the crocodiles that inhabit their patch. Ours even had names for them. We got to see...

A humongous, 60 + year old male sitting on the river bank with his mouth wide open. One of the most spectacular things I've ever seen in the wild!

A female sitting beside him.

Three separate females sitting on the banks, one with around 8 little croc hatchlings swimming around her and bobbing their heads out of the water when our boat stopped to look at them.

We got up and close to observe them.

We also saw a tree snake , loads of other little hatchlings going off by themselves on the river and lots of Ulysses butterflies.

Many thanks for your comments. It seems that this is more of a sales pitch for Daintree Cruises which we always encourage people to do anyway. Depending on how much time, visitors have in the area, it is good to see a diverse range of attractions and tours. Hartley's is a diverse attraction with a range of wildlife. We have some of the best enclosures of large crocodiles and they are designed based on years of experience and observation working which cater to the needs and requirements for crocodiles. There are also strict requirements enshrined in legislation by 'experts' in the government and you cannot stray too far from their guidelines as all most be approved before construction takes place. From reading your comments, you experienced only a very small portion of the overall Hartley's experience including electing not to participate in anything other than our crocodile cruise it appears. We have Ulysses and Cairns Birdwing Butterflies at Hartley's in the wild too as well as a amazing array of wild bird species. In the wild, commercial vessels in the wild are supposed to stay no less than 10 metres away from all crocodiles, so your comments at being so close to hatchlings being cared for by a mother croc, are indeed interesting.

Best experience of our Cairns holiday.
This place was simply incredible. As a family of 4 including two kids under 6 we had an amazing day, beginning with the lagoon boat ride seeing an incredible amount of crocs, then the croc feeding show and much more. The only downside was the croc attack show was too late in the day at 3pm IMO, especially with little kids as the humidity sapped all our energy to last that long!

Many thanks for your very positive feedback. We have two crocodile feeding shows; one at 11 am and the other at 3 pm for this specified reason. It's now Autumn in Cairns so temperatures will progressively reduce, but of course we won't be getting snow. Many thanks for your great feedback.
