Filled with 18th-century paintings and ornate rooms, this white and gold palace is surrounded by a 1400-acre park complete with fountains, bridges, the Agate Pavilion bathhouse and the Great Pond. The Palace also has a famous Amber Room, stolen by Nazi troops during WWII, but now recreated by Russian craftsmen.

Our timing of a visit to this popular Palace was unfortunate for although we had picked mid winter to visit St Petrsburg to avoid the bulk of the tourists we did fall on a Russian Holiday break!! The palace was therefore busier than a usual for an out of season visit BUT still with a little care and guided movement... More

Tsarskoe Selo or Pushkin is 25 km from St Petersburg. We made an arrangement with a taxi driver to take us there and back and to wait 3 hours for 5000 Rubles (each additional hour 500 Rubles). Catherine Palace itself is very interesting and definitely well worth a visit. The gardens are vast and incredibly beautiful. It was -20 degrees... More

Each room is spectacular- ceilings, walls and even the floors! The Amber Room is breathtaking. The outside sets up the visit with the its scale and colour as well as the grounds. Worth the trip out of the city.

We booked a day tour through viator.com and we did not regret it. Drove out through St. Petersburg and off to Pushkin we went. There our guide was able to get us in and get our coats in the very busy cloak rooms. Once in this Palace is just amazing. The amber room alone is worth the price of admission.... More

This palace is very interesting and is adjacent to a beautiful park. It is stunning in the winter with all of the snow around. But beware of the queue and of the fact that they only let in people in intervals of 15 minutes. I stood in freezing cold for 2 hours before I got in. If there's more than... More

This is also a must see, the amber room is fab! You cannot miss it, not to mention the beautiful interior and renovated masterpiece that this Palace is. Did ts with a guide which was most helpful in interpreting the symbolism of the paintings so one can start seeing the story they tell for yourself.

We visited the Catherine Palace by using a taxi and self toured with the audio guide. This worked really well for us and the cheapest most flexible option. The Palace is beautiful, inside and outside, with its well manicured lawns, gorgeous blue facade and grand entrance through golden gates. Inside, you are shepherded through the rooms with no room to... More

A must see! You can lament the incredible indulgence by the Russian royalty at the expense of the peasants, but we were admittedly in awe of the art, the craftsmanship and the visionary masterpieces. Do not miss this.

Is not just a beautiful building but also interesting to see how the russian autocracy used to live. Furniture and personal belongings are well preserved and what was destroyed by the second world war is well reconstructed showing on photos the original and how was after the war.

The hotel arranged a private car and guide for me. The guide had thirty-five years experience. She said I hit the jack-pot weather-wise, and there are almost no lines this time of year. The place is spectacular, but largely recreated.
